The Grind Begins

I'd forgotten how meaningless individual accomplishments meant out here. I've killed at least ten pirates, fugitives, or other flavors of criminal since I got back in the pilot's seat and I'm still considered "Harmless." Might just stick to hauling, but the kill missions pay better, even though I have to spend 60K on missiles inbetween each one. And trust me, I very much am doing this for the money and the recognition. This galaxy's too big and unforgiving for ideologies such as "doing the right thing" or "helping your fellow man." I mean, sure, if a friend was in need of help and I could, sure, I'd help. But I'm not hunting down specific pirates or bounties with the thought of "this will keep people safe from harm in the future." They know the dangers of going into the black, and if they're not prepared, well....Anyway, I took a trip out to Hajangai, the "homeport" of the Fatherhood, and it's a damn tourist station. Most of the jobs want me to take data halfway across the galaxy. And yeah, the money was great, two or three missions would pay for a new Krait MK2 and then some, but I don't think I have it in me to travel twenty-plus thousand lightyears when my ship's max jump is ten. Ten. How many jumps is that? I don't even have the will to do the math.
So after a few easier missions I've found myself in Bestia, and that's been the center of the bulk of the missions I've undergone, including all of the kill missions I talked about above. Is there a new pirate faction homing themselves nearby? Seems to be a lot of activity. Perhaps I'll have that new Krait sooner than expected, or perhaps I've got my work cut out for me. Well, as long as I always have enough in the pocket for insurance I don't see a problem with pushing my luck. Hell, maybe I can get a few of these Fatherhood boys out here to help me take on some nastier prey...
