Unknown Crash Site
21 Jun 2019Robert Phillips
I was passing through HIP 12959 whilst gathering materials, and performed a standard system scan. My sensors detected a signal source orbiting the 4th body, a ringed High Metal Content World. I exited SuperCruise close to the signal source and found a listening post transmitting a corrupted signal:
LISTENING POST SIGNAL DATA
…Corporate Data Packet KAH-758-A Detected…
Matches signal detected at listening posts: (col 285 sector er-v d2-46, col 285 sector gm-v d2-72)
Approximate Signal Range: 53-56 LY
… We’ve got to report this… long:-65.151093 ……what do they want from us… That noise… help us…
…Signal Lost…
The signal data pointed to matching signals in the following systems:
- Col 285 Sector ER-V D2-46 (87.67 LY from HIP 12959, 69.64 LY from Col 285 Sector GM-V D2-72)
- Col 285 Sector GM-V D2-72 (83.75 LY from HIP 12959)
After visiting all 3 locations I had the following triangulation data for the signal source:
- HIP 12959 4
Range: 53-56 LY
Data: Long: -65.151093
- Col 285 Sector ER-V D2-46 2
Range: 42-45 LY
Data: Lat: -16.48391
- Col 285 Sector GM-V D2-72 A 7
Range: 39-41 LY
Data: (Body) 'A 1'
Based on this data, I was looking for a multi-star system, because system bodies would not be prefixed with a letter otherwise. The closest match I could find was at Col 285 Sector OP-L B9-0, a binary T-Tauri star system. It had a landable body at Col 285 Sector OP-L B9-0 A 1, which I headed for. There I found a crash site of an anonymous vessel, with a damaged escape pod embedded in the ground. Upon reaching the vicinity of the crash site in my SRV, I picked up the following recorded voice transmission from a female voice:
"Mayday, Mayday, we’ve survived a crash and need help. We’re stranded and our supplies are running low. I’m including coordinates with this transmission."
No additional coordinates were provided with the recording, so I could only assume these were the coordinates picked up by the Listening Posts that led to this location.
I had some errands I needed to run at Lave anyway, so I headed straight there and turned in the damaged escape pod to Lave Station authorities.
Unfortunately it was too late. The unknown occupant had died before I had even arrived at her crash site.
