LOG - 008
________

I sat next to the pod, unmoving, unblinking, thoughts racing through my mind, doubts overwhelming every fiber of my body, yet I watched the timer tick down. Second by second, minute by minute.

The girl blinked, still probably in a haze from the chaos that unfolded around her only a few hours beforehand.

Her hand slowly moved to press into the pod, I broke from my stare, sliding my hand onto a handle and lifting the hatch up and open. She gazed at the cluttered mess of my DBX's cargo racks, not speaking a word.

She continued like this for awhile longer, I finally broke the silence, "What's your name..?"

She replied slowly and cautiously, "Wha- ... my name?"

"Yeah, you're name"

"My names... Vida... wh- where are my parents? Who are you?"

"I am... well I'm the person who just pulled you out of... hey, listen, it's a long story, you should just... get up and-"

"I want to know who you are, where are my parents? Where are we?"

I sat there, almost as dazed as she was, not knowing how to answer the questions.

She eased herself out of the pod and kept staring at me, expecting an answer.

I had no answers.

She snapped her fingers, annoyed at me as I struggled to find words...

"You're parents... the ship... you're escape pod... I ju-"

"What're you talking about?"

"Listen kid, I don't know how to explain this to you, so I'm not going to sugar-coat this, you're parents... they weren't as fortunate as you were to make it to the pods, I tried, I tried as hard as I could to get to you in-"

"What do you mean they weren't as fortunate as me? Where are they?"

I reached down into the bag I had at my feet, pulling out the small postcard I recovered from her dad's office onboard, handing it to her slowly.

"They... weren't as fortunate..."

I stared at the ground, I couldn't bring myself to look at her, I could hear her choking up as she tried to control her tears.

I slowly began to look up at her, she was staring at the post card in her hands, tears running down her face, some slipping off onto the small card, some onto the dirty floor.

Suddenly, she looked up at me, we locked eyes, I could sense every ounce of pain she was feeling at that moment, and it only took seconds for me to look away, but those seconds were long enough. I reached down again and grabbed a small drybag I stuffed full of some spare clothing and flight suits I found in her closet.

I handed it over to her slowly as she softly took it, "The... bathrooms on the left, before the cockpit..." I muttered from under my breathe.

I continued staring at the floor as she walked toward the bathroom, closing it behind her.

I heard a click, the lock, then I heard her begin to sob.

I stared at the ground, I don't know what I was thinking...
