Cavalieri Survey - Akena Buj 20/5/3307
After spending the better part of a week taking assignments from Fuse Syndicate, I am called into a meeting with Kenny Potts (Vice President). He informs my compatriots and I that the faction 'Akena Buj Pro-Independent Bond' have declared war on Fuse Syndicate. Our influence had grown to where we had become a threat to their controlling of the system. VP Potts is seeking the aid of RGC to defend Fuse syndicate and win the conflict in their favour.
My compatriots and I leave Cavalieri Survey and travel to our fleet carrier, J3x-L0X. Discussing amongst ourselves, we formed up into wings and decide on rotations for the coming conflict. I am assigned to the first rotation, entering battle that evening. Once on J3x-L0X, I enter my Federal Assault Ship, the Caliburn. We download intel from the forces already in conflict, noting combat ranks of those in the AO. We un-dock and our wing flies to the nearby planet with a high intensity conflict raging above it.
We drop into the AO, with our wing consisting of a Federal Corvette, Federal Assault Ship, Type-10 Defender and Fer-De-Lance. We increase to combat speeds and diverge our vectors, prioritising targets marked 'Dangerous' or above. Our Corvette engages and occupies the attention of an enemy Anaconda class vessel with the Type-10 providing supporting fire for us all. I select smaller, faster targets engaging and harassing our forces with repeated fire. Using my Rail guns and large multi-cannons, I immediately destroy 2 eagles engaging an asp explorer. I turn and reverse my thrusters, pitching to face the conflict. As I do so, I catch site of our FDL disabling an enemy Chieftain's drive using a Huge Beam Laser. The enemy ship, now unable to change vector, is quickly cut down by the withering fire of our forces.
Boosting back towards the centre of the conflict, I engage lateral thrusters and roll, positioning myself behind an Asp Scout. As I line up for a Rail Gun shot, I see from above our Federal Corvette using FA-Off to turn on the Anaconda. It's current vector puts it on an intercept course with the Scout at an angle that has not revealed it. I peel off in time to see the Scout impact with the armour plating around the drive of the Corvette, heavily damaged and subsequently burned up in the drive plume of the Corvette's Boost towards the Anaconda. I hear a low chuckle over the comms, and smile as i realise the manoeuvre was intentional.
The Fer-De-Lance shouts over the Comm for me to pitch down, with an immediacy in his tone that demands instant action. I dive just in time to dodge
incoming Plasma Shots from an enemy Python. Noting the attacking ship as 'Deadly', I flag the ship for my wing mates to watch for. Without a word, Our Type-10 and FDL switch targets to the Python right as I fire dual Rail shots at it's canopy. The shots are blocked by the shield, but the resultant explosive cloud temporarily blocks the pilots view. I use this brief opportunity to change vector, missing a second salvo of Plasma shots aimed at my port wing. Our type-10 has now caught up with us, unleashing a torrent of Laser Fire from below that the Python's shields strain to repel. As I adjust and add my multi-cannon fire, our Fer-de-Lance dives down from above, using it's Huge Beam to pop the Python's shield. Adjusting it's course, the FDL fires a volley of Frag Cannons at point blank range, shredding the hull open, revealing the power plant. The type 10 targets the now exposed subsystem, overheating it and causing the python to explode into a cloud of shrapnel.
As we readjust our position, we see the battle is swinging definitively in our favour. The Enemy Anaconda has been decimated by our Corvette, and is drifting helplessly off into the void, its canopy blown and drives disabled. The Corvette is now engaging two enemy Challengers simultaneously, splitting its turret fire amongst the two as they present themselves for attack runs. As we approach to re-engage, the Corvette scores a solid hit on the exposed hull of the nearest challenger, disrupting it's power distributor and causing it to stutter and hang limp in the void.
Assessing the conflict, we trust our Corvette has the situation under control, and seek new targets. We notice a team of 4 enemy Spec-ops forces have joined the far side of the conflict. We tag them as Alpha through Delta, as they are all flying identical Asp Explorers. Being the fastest among us, the FDL dives low beneath us to arrive on an unexpected vector, timing his arrival to coincide with mine. The Type-10 unleashes his Ship Launched Fighter to assist whilst he charges directly towards the middle of the engaged group.
As the F63 darts out ahead of me, I notice that 'Charlie' has lost their shields, and is popping chaff in an effort to escape and regroup. Reaching 1.5km engagement distance, I roll 180 and boost my starboard thrusters, drifting to position a shot. My Rail gun fire pummels the Hull, taking out a large chunk of their ship's integrity but missing any vital subsystems. Their attention now focused on me, they spin to engage as the Ship Launched Fighter strikes their canopy with plasma repeater fire. 'Charlie' launches a stream of Burst laser and multi-cannon fire at me, and despite my drifting laterally, scores some solid hits against my shield. A warning light flashes noting I have sustained 20% shield damage. The SLF spins and rakes the hull from the behind under a staccato burst of repeater fire. I cancel my drift and boost directly at 'charlie', engaging vertical thrusters and tuning FA-Off to take me just under their hull. Despite their pitching to meet me, I pass underneath their fire at speed, unleashing multi-cannon fire along their hull as I line up a point blank rail shot through the centre mass of the ship. The Rail shot must have penetrated the fuel tank, as the ship then begins spewing fire from below, spinning at a faster and faster rate before detonating in a deluge of fire.
This attracts the ire of the remaining Spec-Ops team; Delta and Bravo disengage from their targets (two evasive Viper mk-3s) and simultaneously begin firing upon my position. I spin, roll and boost to attempt to evade, but my shield quickly drops, leaving my exposed Hull, I hear a klaxon of incoming missile fire, and immediately boost to lengthen time to impact. I hear the buzzing sound of a ECM warning, and look up just in time to see the T-10 catching up with me. The missiles lose lock as the T-10 targets 'Bravo' with a withering discharge of laser fire, cracking their shield and melting lines across the armour of the ship. The SLF re-engages, launching a burst of repeater fire into the drive of 'Bravo'. Pinched between the mobile fortress and the repeater fire, 'Bravo' is quickly overwhelmed and destroyed.
As I turn and re-engage 'delta', our FDL surges from below, unleashing a full salvo of frag cannon and beam laser shots. The impacts crack across the shield, causing a blinding eruption of blue light from the Asp. Noticing the Asp has only a sliver of shield left, I boost directly at them, pitching down to slam the top bough of my ship against them, forcing their ship up and off course. My ship's warning klaxon sounds that my integrity is being compromised, but the indicator states only 10% loss. Looking up, the Asp has taken significantly more hull damage. The FDL has reversed and unleashed a second salvo upon 'Delta', quickly ending them as their ship splinters under the barrage. A stream of luminous fire erupts from above as an enemy Gunship fires seven multi-cannons upon our FDL, who immediately soars away to evade.
Checking the sensors, the ship marked as 'Alpha' is now boosting away and spooling up their FSD to escape. Our T10 has begun chasing but cannot catch the Asp. I see the bloom of 'Alpha's' shield as the laser fire impacts. Checking the distance, I note '2.5km' to target. I unleash a volley of dual rail shots, only one shot scraping the shield to little effect, and watch in apprehension as 'Alpha' disappears in a 'low wake', evading us. I receive a comm from our forces stating victory is close. Our FDL is banking and pitching, evading fire from the Gunship, and pops chaff to confuse their targeting further. The FDL boosts and rises towards our rapidly approaching Corvette. The Gunship realises their mistake a fraction too late as the Corvette scorches its hull into slag under its bombardment.
I tune into our faction comms as I hear a universal shout that remaining enemy forces are disengaging and fleeing. My wing mates and I disengage and assess our damage. I am the only combatant in our wing to sustain hull damage, and even then nothing significant, only armour plating dented and loosened from the slam. We form up and make our way back to the fleet carrier, exhausted but elated, and more importantly, alive.
We report our victory to our leadership and compatriots, restock, re-arm and, in my case, repair.
The first engagement in our civil war had been decisive.
The second rotation is heading our now, Three type-10's and an FDL, I can only hope they have as much luck as we do.
