Personal Log 9: 25th - 31st May, 3301
06 Sep 2016Jemine Caesar
25th - 31st May, 3301I was forced to spend the entire week under station arrest at Dirac City. I couldn't call any of my friends, since my comms access had been blocked by the Federal Investigators. Even my dataslate had been confiscated. I was free to wander around the station, though the docking bays were strictly off limits. If I went near them, the tracker in my head would bring the station security down on me like a ton of durabloks.
So I had a lot of time on my hands. I roamed the shopping malls, and checked the menus in the food courts. I read several books, including one about the voyage of the USS Asimov back in the early days of interstellar flight. It made me realise that space travel has come a long way since then!
I also watched several of my grandparents' holovids. The 3239 remake of 'Gone With The Wind' was particularly enthralling, and I clapped with glee when I recognised my grandmama in the background of the ball scene at Tara. I adored the beautiful dresses they wore. 'Federation Day', in which my grandpapa played a scientist battling against a fictitious invasion of Earth by the Thargoids, was very chilling. And I cried at the happy ending of 'The Aldebaran Queen', the only holovid in which they appeared together.
And, of course, Galnet was full of the news about the very real disappearance of President Halsey and Starflight One on May the 26th.

Federal Investigator Bailey came to question me on May the 31st.
"Miss Caesar," he asked, "what were you doing in the LTT 18486 system on May 21st?"
"Trading," I replied. "I'm a trader. I sold some coffee at MacArthur Terminal, then passed through the system later to take a shipment of auto-fabricators from GD219 to LHS3447. Please, I've done nothing wrong."
Bailey showed me a holo-image. "Do you recognise this man?"
"Yes," I said. "He's a market researcher for Universal Cartographics. His name is Finn. Thaddeus Finn. I met him here, in fact. He asked me about my scanner data from LTT 18486."
"You've never seen him before?"
"No, never."
"Does the name Window Cleaner mean anything to you?
"Window Cleaner? No, nothing at all. Should it?"
"That's all for now. We'll be in touch, Miss Caesar."
And with that, he left.
