Personal Log 30: Operation Neverland

17 Sep 2016Jemine Caesar
Operation Neverland (Debrief conducted by Admiral Georges Remi with CMDR Sam Hodkin by secure k-cast, 30th July, 3301)

"Bonjour, Sam. I would like to offer you my personal thanks for your actions in the Ba Po system on July 28th. The assistance you gave to the joint task force brought a successful conclusion to a lengthy investigation.

"Fortunately, casualties on both sides were light, though I very much regret the sad death of the clone BX42, known as Bekka. It is a tragic coincidence that BX42 was the clone version of the daughter of your companion, commander Jemine Caesar. I understand from the report that Miss Caesar was present at the end of the operation on Mullane Mines starport. I am conscious that the subsequent death of BX42 may have been a distressing experience for Miss Caesar, and I intend to contact her to offer my sincere condolences.

"You may be interested to know some of the details of the cloning programme.

"The FIS has known for some time that it was the work of the Empire. Their ambassador denied it at first, then conceded it may be a rogue research organisation acting outside of Imperial control. The cohort of clones you tracked was just one of several spread across Federation space, from DNA gathered employing a range of ingenious, and reprehensible, means of harvesting. Why they did not simply take DNA from Imperial citizens remains a mystery!

"The Imperial pilot captured at Ba Po has been most co-operative. It appears the clones were bred as an experiment to become intelligence operatives, with their childhood devoted to training in methods of building trust and gathering soft Intel. This made the clones adept at establishing rapport with their targets. We believe this is how BX42 was able to appear to possess the memories of Miss Caesar's daughter. The clone was simply probing for information using verbal and visual clues, whilst providing enough positive feedback to engender further trust. There was no thought transference going on. That is still very much in the realms of science fiction!

"The group of artificially aged clones were an attempt to speed the process. It would appear this in fact weakened the indoctrination, resulting in the clones rebelling and ultimately managing to escape to Sol.

"The closure of this affair has prevented a conflict with the Empire. Our diplomats have spoken to their diplomats, and a mutually beneficial understanding has been reached. Officially, none of it ever happened, and I must ask you never to speak of it again.

"The Empire has asked for the surviving clones to be returned to them for processing, by which we believe they mean termination. I understand President Hudson has agreed to this request. The aged clones in the Sol system seem to have been able to deactivate their trackers, so a team of FIS special forces is conducting the search for them. BX42 was also fitted with a tracker, the device you noticed on her neck. An Imperial medical team has been granted supervised access to BX42 before she is taken to LHS 3447 for a funeral.

"Once again, mon ami, thank you for your help in this matter, and please pass on my kindest regards to Miss Caesar."
