Hello Sam, my darling,
I'm so sorry for causing such a fuss. The last thing I remember before waking up here is being with you in our room on Lincoln station. Dr Standish-Lang says I used the refertilisation treatment, but I can't remember that. He says I had an allergic reaction to a chemical in the treatment, and that I nearly died. Apparently the treatment is working well, and should be completed in another three weeks or so.
I'm out of bed now, and feeling quite well. The doctor says I should be able to leave the clinic within the next 36 to 48 hours.
Have you been in touch with my grandparents to let them know what's happened?

My dearest Jem,
You have nothing to apologise for. I'm just glad that I called for medical help when I did; another ten minutes and you'd have been a goner.
It turns out that the injector contained huge doses of Ro20, the active drug in sobriety pills that you're so allergic to, and that's what set everything off.
And you can be assured that I've been in frequent k-cast contact with your grandparents. Your grandfather's arranged everything for Bekka's funeral. And the sooner that you're out the better!
