I was glad to be on the move once more, and doubly glad to be moving away from the Pegasi sectors. I certainly had no intention of venturing anywhere near Archon Delaine territory ever again!

By the time Sam and I arrived in Tun, Nathalie had already left. So much for my surprise visit! On the positive side, her departure surely meant that she was no longer in hiding from the Kumo Crew. However, it also meant that our reunion would have to wait a little longer.

I sent a k-cast to Nath, asking for her present location. Her prompt reply told me that she was in the 89 Leonis system, almost 250LY away.

“You go on ahead,” said Sam. “The R134’s planetary approach module is on the blink, so I’m putting her in for repairs here. I’ll join you just as soon as I can. “

My navcom calculated it would take forty jumps to reach 89 Leonis. I decided to break my journey at LHS 3713, which lay roughly half way on the route to my destination. There, at Ashby Dock, I sold some astrocartography data for 19500CR. I also noted that Jaques Quinential Stills were being bought for just under 27000CR apiece. Selling the eighteen I had on board would return a 209% profit.

“Hang on to ‘em a smidge longer, flower,” said a trader in the Pilot’s Lounge. “You’ll get a better price for ‘em the further you go. Unless you get yourself blown by pirates first, o’ course! “

“Thank you for the advice,” I replied, wondering how much I might get for the stills when I eventually sold them.

A few jumps later, at LHS 417, I docked at Gernhardt Camp and powered down The Last Thing for a well deserved rest. Sam called to say the R134 was ready, and that he’d meet me at 89 Leonis.

Next day, May 29th, I powered up for the final fourteen jumps of my journey. After a brief refuelling stop at LHS 2471, I rendezvoused with Sam at 89 Leonis for the final approach to Binet Port. Once docked I checked the market’s price for Jaques Quinential Stills. The going rate was just under 27700CR, so I decided the time had come to sell my stock. The profit of 346600CR was, I calculated, a 220% gain on my initial investment. Not bad, I thought, for a girl with no head for business!

Later, as we checked in to our room, Sam said he had some good news.

“My cousin Mark had decided to go back into the pub trade,” he said. “He’s asked me to keep an eye open for some suitable premises. “

“That is wonderful!” I agreed. “I’m so glad he feels able to put that awful shooting incident behind him.”

With a sigh of contentment I picked up my dataslate and sent a message to Nathalie, telling her I’d arrived in 89 Leonis.

There was no reply.
