Stryker looked with satisfaction as the Assault Ship’s landing gear deployed and retracted correctly. The Core Dynamics-made vessel had been through a lot in its service with Black Omega. He’d spent the better part of an afternoon troubleshooting the mechanism, complex for an outsider but routine for the beefy mechanic. Now it was back up to full combat readiness, with more vessels waiting for repair work to be done.

But they could wait. His shift was coming to a close, and soon it would be time to hit the showers and call it a day.

The man stretched, frowning. At least, as far as my day job is concerned. If I ever want to see Mhera outside of Exotica, then it’s all about the overtime.

Though a variety of muscle jobs were available, Stryker had settled on something far more mundane: a simple delivery job. He hadn’t taken out his ship in some time, and feared that his piloting skills were becoming rusty. Besides, the last mission with Julius Paravo had left a sour taste in his mouth. Simple, bloodless work was beginning to become appealing.
