I feel so stupid. So very stupid. I can't believe it. Today I was approached by a young woman while I was browsing the terminals at Farkas Dock. She told me that she had a job for me. I enquired about it and it sounded promising. The pay wasn't all that good but she told me it was for the greater good. She told me I could save lives. That I could prevent the deaths of hundreds, maybe thousands of people. The job didn't even involve killing anyone. That's what really got me interested in it. No killing. just a quick trip to the next system.

I asked for further details of the mission but she told me she would let me know when we arrived at the destination. I guess I put my trust in people too willingly. How naive of me. When we arrived she told me that the settlement was mass-producing some kind of bio weaponry. She told me that it was essential that we stopped this from happening. my love for biological research got the better of me. "Bio-weapons! must know more! Must analyze! Must get samples! Must save people in the process!" my stupid brain thought.

She told me all I had to do was get off the shuttle. Gain access to the laboratory and insert a canister into one of the production units. She told me it would neutralize the bio-weapon and make it harmless. She said it was legal too. told me the facility was owned by a private criminal group. I managed to sneak in and cloned the security details of one of the head researchers at the facility to gain access to the laboratory.

I got into the laboratory without being seen, things were going smoothly. I got to one of the production units and was about to insert the canister into the slot. Good thing I didn't. I thought it best to go to a terminal and access the facility record of what they were researching and producing. It was then I found out that the facility belonged to the very people who've hired me in the past to deal with pirates.

I decided not to go through with it. I went back to the ship. She was waiting at the ramp to the ship. She asked if I had done it. I told her that I could not do it. I told her that I was not going to backstab the people who considered me their ally. She wasn't too pleased with that. She pulled out a grenade and lobbed at it the nearby facility staff, killing a few of them. She ran back to the ship and left. Leaving me behind to face the security who now considered me hostile. I didn't want to shoot them. As far as I knew. they were innocent and just doing their jobs. I ran. I ran as fast as I could and crouched down behind a rock until the gunfire stopped. I called in an Apex shuttle to get me out of there.

I now had a bounty on my head. rightfully so. I almost sabotaged an innocent research facility. I handed myself in when we docked at the station. It was the right thing to do. Cost me more credits than I would have gained if I finished the job. But at least my conscience is clear. I should really put more thought into the jobs I accept in the future. Details upfront or it's a no-go. Life was much simpler back at home. Being a doctor was honest work. I didn't have to worry about getting bounties on my head or being shot at. I guess there's no point in stressing out over it now. You live and you learn I guess.
