I Made A Mistake

Captain's Log, date 10-01-3307.I... have made a mistake.
Let me preface this by again reiterating that I am a fairly new pilot. Despite my journeys and what I've done thus far, I still have less than 1000 flight hours. There's a lot I'm ignorant about, and sometimes that gets me in a bit of trouble... as it did the past week.
I had made it back into the Bubble, and was fully ready to support Saud Kruger's campaign to map Earthlikes and get some more data on potential tourist destinations. I was so eager, in fact, that it basically became my job. I jumped countlessly around the bubble, scanning every Earthlike that came up on my scanners. There were hundreds of them, all told! I was incredibly pleased with the work I had done. However... as it turns out, all this work doesn't mean much if the company you're working for doesn't know you're working for them.
I made a grave mistake by believing all pilots were automatically enlisted into new community goals. In all the times I docked a Youll Port and submitted data, it never crossed my mind that this initiative was something I had to sign up for. So in short, I had scanned and submitted over 300 Earthlikes and Saud Kruger was none the wiser.
There's a silver lining, however. I learned of my mistake a little more than a day before the campaign finished, so I pushed myself into overdrive looking for more Earthlikes I hadn't scanned. And my efforts paid off.
I now found myself in possession of two new ships: An Orca and a Dolphin, graciously provided by Saud Kruger, and sporting some fancy paintjobs! As it turns out, I was able to put in enough effort to be in the Top 10% of pilots who had joined the campaign. That was my goal, after all, but it makes the sting of my mistake all the harsher when I realize I could've been a Top 10 Pilot. Not Top 10%, just... Top 10.
I suppose it was a mistake that I was going to learn at some point, and surely one I'm not going to make again. I've learned my lesson, all I need to do is carry that forward.
Now, I'm headed back into The Black to continue my journey to Colonia, one small jump at a time.
