With the threat of Cocijo's imminent arrival in Sol, the cradle of humanity, I sit here in the crew lounge wandering to myself: Have we been looking at the Thargoids in completely the wrong way?
It's taken many gruelling and bloody months to destroy the Titans that spread around our systems and we lost many good commanders and pilots in the process, yet we hail this as a victory and keep telling ourselves that our final victory is imminent with the fall of Cocijo. Yet here I am, trying to catch a moment's respite from almost a week of evacuating terrified civilians from the cradle of our civilisation... This does not feel like a victory.
It seems to me, that all of us collectively have applied human logic to the Thargoid's movements and intentions when they're anything but human. What do we know about our enemy? We know they're a hive mind but do we understand how a hive mind thinks? Do we know how they calculate? The grim truth, we don't understand them at all. They are utterly alien to us and so are their motives.
With the Titans arrival due tomorrow, I can't help but feel we've fallen directly into their trap. What if the previous titans had served their purpose? What if they were there to hold our attention while they study us? If what Seo says is true, they now know everything about us and we've already seen them adapt to our methods in this war.
I hear many commanders and politicians declaring how this is the Thargoid's final stand, a last-ditched attempt to decapitate us. Well, I ask what if this is just the beginning? We have no idea how many of them there truly are. We don't even know if these Titans have been a large or a small force by their standards. We assume that the loss of the Titans and their forces is a major blow to the Thargoids, that they wouldn't willingly sacrifice themselves to study us, because we wouldn't do that and such losses would devastate us. Would those sacrifices mean anything to a hive mind?
As I ponder this, I have a growing sense of dread for what is about to befall us all.
This isn't their last stand, it's ours...
Regardless of what happens next, I'll fight to the death for Sol.
