Entry #2: Commander's Log
02 Sep 2020Hurkadurkaa
Commander Bellator ab Hurk turned on his cockpit camera and adjusted it to face him. He pressed a button on the side of his helmet, turning off the dark opaque setting he normally flew in and making it clear for the recording."Well, it's been a while since I made one of these updates. Been really busy lately, but finally have some time to myself while the Auto-Pilot brings me to the station. Where to start? Chuckles, I guess the beginning makes sense."
The Commander shifts his weight in his chair, getting in a more comfortable position for what he knows will be a long story.
"It's been over two months since I last made a detailed log. A lot has happened since then. First, I made Legionnaire. I missed the War in Mundine by just a few hours, but I made up for it with other deployments. Eventually someone noticed me and Kronus; one day we were engaging some backwater faction in some backwater system, and both of our Comms Panels pinged at the same time. Heard it over the wing comms from his ship actually. I disregarded at first, but then he told me what the message was: we got Legionnaire. That was a good day.
"A little bit after that, we were deployed to HIP 23641 to help a fellow Patronage out there in a war. Command told us to be on the lookout for a faction known as Extra Corporation; at this point, Extra and Legion relations were tense to say the least. We were told to be careful, as they were rumored to be supporting the opposite side. God, that was an understatement. I made a jump into a reported Conflict Zone, and before I even made contact with the friendlies in the area I had an Extra ship on radar, pledged with the enemy. I wish I could say it went well for me, but it didn't. I barely made it out alive from that one, the Krait I just had built a few weeks prior being turned to scrap in minutes.
"As soon as I made it back to the station we were based out of, I found Praetor Ignis 'Extremo' Montis, my Squadron Commander, and told him of the situation. He sent me to the medical wing, thanked me for the information, and immediately called the Praetor Council to inform them of this development. Well, turns out not only did the Legion take this as an act of war, but even the Imperial High Council got involved and condemned Extra Corporation for this action. It took only a few hours for the Legion to formally declare war on the Extras, with other members of High Command joining in during the following days. Eventually, Extra Corporation was forced out of the Imperial High Command all together and joined some group called 'The Unfavorables.' Supposedly this group is filled with factions like Extra; misguided "Imperials" who only serve to help themselves. They don't care about the Empire or Emperor, or as Extra calls her the 'Queen'. It's disgusting."
Commander Bellator ab Hurk looked over to his navigation panel to see how far he was from his destination. He pressed a few buttons and changed a few settings, then he turned back towards the camera.
"We've been all over Imperial Space the last month fighting Extra and freeing systems from their tyrannical, corporate rule. Sometimes we fight in the open, in the name of the Legion and with our banners high. Other times we are supporting local factions who wish to free themselves from the hypocrisy of Extra Corporation. And then there are times we act in secret, so as not to risk retaliation on the local populations under Extra dictatorship by the Corporation. Ironically, there are Dictatorship governments that actually treat their citizens better than Extra does. And then there's our own, non-war operations. The recent election in Vequess, for example. God, that was a long one for me. But for Quaestor Natovsky and Legate Serror, the Squadron's Wing Commanders, it was even longer. They've been working there for years. I remember the night we found out we had a pending election, they bought the entire team Gerasian Gueuze Beer to celebrate. They kept the Lavian Brandy until we won a few days later. I don't think I've ever seen them that happy.
"We've gotten a lot of new Initiates into the Legion and Squadron since the war started. Which is great, we need all the Commanders we can get. A lot of them show great potential, and a few have even made it to Legionnaire already. Guys like Finn, Graf, and Dark have really grown into their own here. Loyal Imperials, fighting for justice and loyalty, to rid the galaxy of those who wish harm on it, especially Extra Corporation. Dark himself was a member of Extra, so he knows first hand how evil they are. I'm proud of the work we've done together, but there is still more to be done in order to---."
Just then, Commander Bellator ab Hurk received a message marked priority. He opened up his Communications Panel to see what was so urgent.
"New orders from Centurion Jester? Pending...holy shit!"
Commander Bellator ab Hurk , clearly surprised by the new communication, immediately reached and turned off his camera before continuing to read this critical update.
