The Sound of Space

When I was a kid I was told there is no sound in space. I beg to differ. I understand the physics. I know that sound can’t travel through a vacuum. But I spend most of my time in space, traveling from one place to another. My days are filled with the ever present flow of questions from tourists, transmissions to stations, and proximity warnings.

Don’t get me wrong, I like the sounds of space. When I hear the pulse of the engines or the whine of the heat flaps opening, I know things are working properly. It’s comforting. I look forward to every day in my ship because it lets me know that some things are within my control.

But some days, I’d give every credit I have to experience that pure, absolute silence of space.
