My life in Elite so far...

I've been playing Elite now for, oh I don't know.... a little over two months? Ish? I've got, as of right now, 1,579.6 hours into the game and maybe 20 of it is just fucked off because I had to walk away and couldn't log out or fell asleep at the controls. I'd like to believe that, given the amount of time I've put into it, I've done pretty good. I'm about to get a Corvette, I have a fleet carrier, 30 something ships, more credits then I know what to do with, have climbed the ranks fairly quickly, and have learned a lot. Hell, even my wife is supportive of me playing Elite! And for those of you that have significant others that are not so supportive... I really feel bad for you. I've been there. It sucks. Most importantly though, through various funny little twists of fate, I have found myself in the company of a few commanders that I met through my squadron (FGS) that I was brought into from Reddit and have found that above the (mostly) awesome game play and stuff, it's the social aspect of it that has really pulled me into the game. I played Eve Online for around 4 years, did pretty ok at it, but ultimately wound up hating it because of the toxicity of the other players. Absolutely toxic. Here in Elite though, I've found one kind soul after another and get to meet and play with people from all over the world... France, Netherlands, Philippines, Canada, and of course the States. Hell, one guy I fly with just about every day lives just 20 minutes from me! We actually hung out together for a while and it was really awesome! I've found a community that, for the most part, is kind, helpful, fun to fly with and talk smack with... just a great group of people from very diverse walks of life. My hope is that with the support of the commanders and with the willingness of Fdev, we can keep this going for a very long time... Especially if Fdev can get their heads out of their butts and get at least some of the most serious bugs worked out, thus helping to get player count back up and generating fresh interest in Elite.
Some of my most favorite and rewarding things I enjoy the most are being able to help other players achieve their goals. It's how I am in real life and how I am in-game. I'm all about being able to be there for those that are in need.... even if it's just in a game. Sharing common goals, fighting for common causes, and most importantly, just having fun is what it's all about with Elite. If we can't fulfill our dreams of exploring the cosmos in real life, at least we can do it here, together, and (hopefully) in the company of others that share our same dreams. Ultimately, we get to vicariously live out dreams that humanity has dreamt of for eons through a "game" (but much more than that)... to go see what's out "there". Out there amongst the stars. Where we came from. We are all children of the stars, literally and figuratively. Being here, playing this game, with this community, has brought that thought back to life in me. I'm grateful for that.
