Title: Kingfisher Report |
Date: 26/11/3308 **
This report details the background behind the Kingfisher, what happened after it left to meet the rogue signal source and the Free System Council operations directly involved.
Background:
7 Nov 3308
Congressman Chase helps to establish the pro-peace megaship, Kingfisher.
This is currently being outfitted with specialist technology designed to transmit signals, in the hope of being able to effect two-way communication with the Thargoids.
17 Nov 3308
The Kingfisher megaship has requested supplies for its planned journey to greet the first rogue signal source.
The first of the anomalies, named Taranis, is predicted to pass through Hyades Sector YO-Q b5-1 for which the Kingfisher has an exclusive permit.
FsyC released this official statement:
We believe the Kingfishers expedition will be important but not for establishing peace.
Peace would be desirable but there is strong evidence supporting the previous civilisation known as the guardians had established contact with this intent, but found themselves in conflict regardless.
However not having a presence capable of collecting information is a huge waste, especially as so little is known and so much at stake.
Any information about the incoming UIA's is extremely valuable and having it on record that humans attempted peace also goes a long way for humanity's conscience regardless of the outcome.
Efforts were made to set up trading routes and use FsyC rangers to police the system.
Free Systems Council members contributed 8200+ Semiconductors and Moan Imager to the outfitting of the megaship.
56,000,000+ CR of criminal bounties were also handed in at Blenkinsop Hub next to where the Kingfisher is currently docked.
22 Nov 3308
The kingfisher is scheduled to depart within 24 hours as Taranis passes through the same system.
24 Nov 3308
All contact ceased from the megaship with the last transmission being a highy distorted distress call.
The Federation responds by cancelling the temporary permit restriction to the Hyades Sector YO-Q b5-1 system for all vessels except fleet carriers.
Observers confirm that the Taranis anomaly passed through Hyades Sector YO-Q b5-1 at faster-than-light speed towards the bubble.
25 Nov 3308
It is confirmed the Kingfisher was attacked by thargoid weaponry, proving Taranis and likely the other rogue signals sources are from Thargoid origin as well as hostile.
FSyC Ai were first to get to Hyades Sector YO-Q b5-1 but were pulled by 3 interceptors when jumping into the system. They were not hostile at first but our DBX was imediatley shutdown by an EMP. The ship had managed to boost and turn off flight assist to allow drift. Great in theory but when engines kicked in we were already imediatley in a direct path of one of the huge interceptors. The unavoidable collision provoked the Thargoids to deploy Thargons and at this point high waking was the only option. The ship lost shields quickly but just made it out with less than 30% hull integrity by the time they docked.
Once repaired the same crew ventured back to the system and were able to download these 3 audio logs. The first log was recorded just before leaving the Andavandul system.
Log 1
What to say, what to say... I suppose I should start at the beggining.
This is Dr Ellas Pope, standing aboard the Kingfisher. The megaship smells brand new, all aerosol sprays and adhesives. Our research equipment is current generation. Even the corridors have been polished. Dalton Chase sure kept his word.
Everyone on board is excited about the mission ahead of us. We’ve been given teh chance to make history. This ship, carrying over three thausand supporters of the Thargoid Advocacy Project, aims to greet the first of the rouge anomolies heading towards the core systems: Taranis. We want the first human ship it meets to be of peace, not war.
My role is to lead the team seeking to open communications with the Thargoids. Now, we’re hardly going to strike up a converstauon anytime soon – we don’t even knoew wether the aliens recognise human communication methids. But we have some ideas.
There are multiple methods of sending messages without a shared language. My team has propsed various data sequenxes, audio cues, light patterns and such. If we can establish andy level of responsethen we have somthing to work with.
Imagine the incredible opportunitues for both our species if we can make contact, True contacct – not just as exchange of weapons fire. If they heard us... I get goosebumps just thinking about it.
Our jump to intercept Taranis is scheduled for an hours time. I’ll update when we arrive.
Log 2
We’ve reached our desitination in Hyades Sector YO-Q b5-1 and started our observations. So far we’ve been unable to make headway.
The taranis signal has decelearated. But our calculations indicate it will still pass us by at a velocity too fast for any meaningful contact – unless we get its attention. We’re transmitting algorithmic comms, binary encoded hails anda series of harmonised whistles that don’t accur naturally im the galaxy’s electromagnetic makeup. To loittle noticable effect, I should add.
Our readings confirm Professor Pailin’s theory that teh signal source is massive. If our estimates are correct, Taranis dwarfs any man-made starport. We remain hopeful that the signal has a non-military purpose, but we cannot assertain its motives through long -range scans alone.
Mood aboard the Kingfisher is apprehensive. I believe it is dawning upon the crew that while we truly wish to make peaceful contact, The Thargoids themselves may not be listening. I have to admit... I’m beginning to wonder whether we made the right decision by coming here.
If only we had a sign that our efforts meant something.
Log 3
This is Dr Elias Pope. I’m standing on the bridge of the Kingfisher. If you’re recieveing this transmission, we need Federal authorities to cancel system access restrictions. Send help immediatley!
The ship has been attacked by multiple Thargoid vessels. They swarmed the system as Taranis passed through. We’re defecneless.
After days of silence, we heard a noise from Taranis signal moments before it entered the system. I don't have time to analyse it properly, but the Thargoid ships appeared moments later. This mission was doomed from the start. We hoped they would listen, but...
I don't know whether Is should use one of the remaining escape pods. The helmsmen claims they saw others that were jettisoned being collected by Thargoid ships.
My assistant, she’s... she’s praying to a god she doesn't believe in for a miracle that cant happen. I’m thinking of joining her.
It wasn't supposed to be like this.
FSyC Search and Rescue unit arrived soon after and were more equipped with a wide range of limpet modules, hull reinforcement and a prismatic shield to better handle things.
Again the ship was pulled when trying to enter the system and this time the Thagoids attacked immediately. They managed to get away with some minor hull damage as the absolute damage negated the strong shields.
Crew Account:
"Once we dropped in, we immediately fired up the collector limpet controller which was set to ignore commodities and prioritise escape pods. The only thing we could find floating of interest was a black back unit but as a limpet successfully picked it up sensors detected frame shift anomalies. Not just because I was highly advised to collect that box at any reasonable cost but because S&R are the best at what we do we let that limpet in before making a sharp high wake under fire from a massive interceptor."
The crew handed the blackbox into a local authority and went straight back to the Kingfisher but this time they were instructed to go straight to the escape hatch bay with a hatch breaker limpet controller.
Crew Account:
"The new mission brief told us to go straight to the escape hatch scanning it as soon as range allowed. Frame Shift Anomalies were immediately picked up but we managed to get the hatch breaker on the docking point and deploy 2 collectors while it did its thing. The EMP burst seemed to come from nowhere leaving us sitting with not even a light, looking on as the escape hatch swings open and escape pods jettison out. Again not to brag but we had a job to do so we just waited for the systems to blink on and the limpets to fill up the cargo hold even as the deployed Thargons located us and opened fire."
The Search and rescue vessel was not perfectly engineered for Thargoid defence but held its ground and got back to safety in a near by system. The crew managed to drop 2 occupied escape pods and 2 damaged pods to authorities but no information about the status of the occupants could be given.
Dr Popes 3rd log mentions a strange noise before being attacked, there may be value if the data can be recovered and analysed. Its also possible survivors may have missed information its more likely this is all we will know until Taranis arrives this week.
