T Tauri War Journal: Day One

From the first dust-down out of the dropship, I knew this war would be different. It was even bigger than the Federation secession riots earlier this year (3307). I had encountered enemy CMDRs on the ground before, but never teams of enemy CMDRs to fight alone. The scale of troops deployed and fallen seemed heavier than any previous battle I had fought, and I've been in hundreds. Lagrange Dredging Station was littered with enough bodies and spent magazines to give even a seasoned Imperial gunnery sergeant a stomach-curling sense of dread.
Let me back up. Name's Streya, freelance indie mercenary. When this whole spat between Aegis and Salvation (via Taurus Mining Ventures) started spinning up, I couldn't really care less initially. The ineffectual incumbents versus some new researchers on the block, what could go wrong? Fast forward to T Tauri, amidst another wave of Thargoid incursions into the Pleiades, and suddenly the Aegis allegations of Salvation tech attracting Thargoids seemed more plausible. But not wanting to lose out on any exclusive tech either side has to offer, I put tabs down on both sides.
The situation fighting for each side couldn't be more different, however. When fighting for Aegis, I would frequently get dropped into grueling battles that were mostly lost already, against enemy CMDRs who were greater in number or had better equipment than my Grade Fours and Threes. Fighting on the Taurus side, however, was a much less daunting prospect. Public support initially appears to be on Taurus/Salvation's side, and if I had credits on the situation (I do), that would be the side to pick. But something about the possibility of these plucky independent researchers provoking the 'goids still scratches at the back of my mind. But then, maybe they know full well that's how we would ultimately win anyway, by baiting them?
Ah well, if they wanted me to think harder on the subject I'd be paid more than fifteen million per battle. Most of the squadies seem to agree that going Taurus is the winning bet, at least.
