It's honestly incredible to think of all that has happened since I last recorded a log. This one though, comes with a significant sense of urgency. I am simultaneously fearful of what is happening, but also excited and determined. This is what I believe to be our last push in the war against the Thargoids, or at least in the conflict since the failed deployment of the Proteus Wave weapon. Let me reflect on to what got us here.
Over 2 years ago on the 30th of August 3308, an anomaly was discovered far out in deep space. A faint orange dot and a constant extra signal source in ships' FSS scanner tipped off the many of our fellow commander's observant minds. The first 'Rogue Signal Source' was found, a bright, yellow-green, spiral-shaped light hurdling through space at nearly 4000 times the speed of light. Time went by, and another was found. Then another. Then two more. By October we were tracking 8 of them, and it was clear they were all heading to the same place; The Bubble.
By the 29th of November, the first anomaly arrived, and it was at this point we learned the truth of what these things were, or at least some of it. 'Maelstrom Taranis' entered Hyades Sector FB-N B7-6 and settled itself above a planet with an ammonia-based atmosphere. It immediately overwhelmed the system and unleashed a massive assault on 9 nearby systems, including the stations and settlements within. I was there when we explored the depths of these immense, caustic storm clouds, or at least tried to anyway. No matter how hard we tried, something generated a massive energy pulse that sent ships flying back at kilometers a second. If it wasn't that that stopped you, the caustic damage to your hull would do it.
Although coordination in this large invasion was necessary, everyone knew what we needed to do; Rescue, Reclaim, Repair, and Research. The second Thargoid War began. Rescue ships were dispatched to frontline systems nearby wherever the Maelstroms planted themselves, providing refuge for billions of people and supplies for those aiding in the war efforts. Coordination from governments as well as Commander-led squadrons outlined what systems to focus on. The fight in the beginning was rough, and we were making minimal progress since we knew so little about whatever these 'Maelstroms' were. The Thargoids even brought along new threats to this fight. Orthrus Interceptors were sent to look for new systems to conquer, and though not a threat on their own, they still presented quite the challenge. Ground-based drones similar in class to the Scavengers we've seen before, designated 'Revenants' and 'Banshees' started populating surface settlements. Even a new class of space-based vessels called 'Hunters' were seemingly developed specifically to eliminate us. Super-maneuverable Glaives laid the damage, while Scythes focused solely on capturing humans. Their force was brutal, and they had pretty much pinned us in any way we had previously excelled. Soon though, the research started giving us answers.
Enhanced AX weaponry and Xeno-Scanners started giving us an upper hand in the fight. The various materials from 'Caustic Generators' floating in the clouds and data from the massive energy surges also provided us with opportunities to enhance our existing technology to probe deeper into the Maelstroms. Utilizing our new Caustic Sinks and Thargoid Pulse Neutralizers allowed us to get past the energy surges, and we finally saw what we all feared was in the center of the storms.
Looming in the thick red gas were colossal Thargoid motherships, which resulted in another re-designation to 'Thargoid Titans'. These massive, nearly 13 kilometer wide ships simply sat there, surrounded by asteroids, covered in weaponry, and allowing Thargoid vessels to traverse in and out of them. And if they noticed you? You were in for a death sentence. Again though, we hit a road block. These things were invincible. Nothing could hurt them, and the many Interceptors, Scouts, and Hunters patrolling the area was bound to get you killed.
The Orthrus Interceptors. Something was important about them. Even Aegis knew it. I got to be one of the lucky few commanders that figured out what it was. On various planets nearby the Titans, large spikes and growths emerged from the surface, designated 'Thargoid Barnacle Matrixes'. Within weeks, they had grown into enormous 'Thargoid Spire' complexes. Their purpose later determined to be refineries, likely for fuel or materials for the Titans. The Orthruses were tasked with finding planets full of materials needed for construction of their fleet, and planting the necessary seeds to get facilities to provide those materials up and running. It had been apparent that systems under control of the Titans were only stronger if they were closer, and likewise, the Titans were weaker once we started taking back systems. This was a slow process before, but now that we had found a key strategic target, we made our moves. Rescue refugees, fight the enemy and reclaim systems, sabotage their resource production, repair the stations and settlements to get our front lines closer to the enemy, research more on how we finally take these things down.
For eons the history between the Thargoids and the Guardians sat dormant in the Guardians' networks. Much had already been learned from them. They still had, and still do I suspect, possessed our new secret weapon against the Thargoids though; Nanites. These nanites, designed to dismantle Thargoid systems, would finally turn the tide. Equipped with Guardian Nanite Torpedoes, Taranis became the first to fall, ending in a spectacular detonation. How poetic. It signaled the start of the war, and it was now signaling the beginning of the end. One after another, the Titans began to fall. Leigong, Oya, Hadad, Indra, Thor, Raijin, all eliminated in an incredible feat of unity. The last Titan, Cocijo, seems to playing the Thargoids' final card in this conflict, or so I hope anyway. Seo Jin-Ae, a former prisoner that was experimented on by Azimuth Biotech long ago, has had a connection to the Thargoid Hive-mind using the implants she was given. While this has helped predict or decipher some of what the Thargoids had intended to do, they turned it around and used her to learn more about us. This is where we arrive to the present day.
Titan Cocijo left Col 285 Sector BA-P C6-18, and headed deeper into the core systems. Deeper to Sol, deeper to Earth. This is our final fight my fellow commanders. Somewhere deep in my heart I hope to learn more about this species we call neighbors in this galaxy, I truly do. However, this war has cost both of us much, and it needs to end. They pulled the final straw, and its far too close to home. Earth and Sol will NOT be lost. I know this. Even the smallest collaborations when taking down the other Titans were impressive, but now that you skip right to our home planet? I don't think so. Cocijo landed a significant initial assault, but nothing will withstand the ambition and determination I have witnessed in the power of this community of commanders. I will be doing what I can, although not much compared to some of the insanely experienced AX fighters I have witnessed. We have already taken back Procyon, and are moving on to Sirius and Duamta. This is your chance my friends. I hope that will be our final fight to end it all.
Load up your carriers, stock your rescue ships, deploy hardpoints. Do this for Earth. DO THIS FOR HUMANITY. o7 CMDRs
