Looking Forward

I pushed my luck a little bit today. But before I get to that, I suppose I should fill in the gap between now and my last entry.
After my failed mission, I figured the best thing I could do was take a quick breather, and get right back at it. Another contract was to be had, this time taking care of a bounty -- some kind of murderer or assassin that evaded justice or some-such. Easy enough, and the target happened to be at the site of my previous mistake -- a chance for a quick redemption; it also doesn't hurt that the money being offered was decent, as well. Not the line of work I expected to get into, and I don't deem to make a habit of it, but parts are costly and beggars can't be choosers.
I did what was asked, turned in the bounty profile, and decided to take a little bit of R&R. At the bar at Oluwafemi. I guess riding two extremes of emotion and then consuming alcohol of dubious source was a mistake, because I spent the next four days in a massive depression aboard the Telesto. Just stayed parked in the hanger bay at Oluwafemi, laying in an empty cargo rack and letting life pass me by as everything processed through me.
The depression had such a hold on me, that I didn't even notice the ping come through until I sat back in the cockpit today. I can now proudly say I've been accepted into a guild -- the Stellar Cartographers' Guild. There was a recruiting announcement from them that came through the 'net the other day, and after seeing what they were about -- exploration, namely -- I submitted an application. I had forgotten about it thanks to all I've had going on, until I saw the ping. Words cannot express how excited I am at the prospect of membership in this group. Apparently they have something they call "The Bar" in the system... COL 285 Sector TW-F B26-1. Quite a mouthful of a system name, but I'm sure I'll get used to it.
As soon as the depression cleared, I grabbed a quick contract to transport some kind of corporate reports to a branch office aboard Walker Orbital in the L 639-45 system -- just a quick, clean, easy job. I also grabbed some cargo from Oluwafemi to deliver to an outpost further into the VESPER-M4 system, just to supplement the lack of income from the courier job.
Never mind the fact that I run without shields most times. Not because I have a death wish, but in the hopes of optimizing the distance my FSD will push out, I heard a suggestion of skimping on shield generators. This almost backfired on me today, as a pirate tried to rip me from supercruise on my way to the outpost to drop my cargo. Thankfully I was able to break away from their interdiction attempt and arrive safely at my destination. And thankfully, there were no further attempts on my way to Walker.
So now, here I sit, pondering my next move. I think I should try to make my way to "The Bar," and check in -- show my face, meet anyone from the Guild who's around, and take some time to explore the system.
And perhaps I should invest in some shielding, if I'm going to stick with the cargo business. Just in case.
