New Beginnings

FIRST DAY BACK IN CIVILIZATIONI careened back into the maw of civilisation today. Barely knew how docking procedures worked, let alone how to manoeuvre through the mail slot of a starport. The dull stench of endlessly recycled air fluffed up against the canopy of the Kaitakusha, by now scarred and rusted from years of service. The fine vessel had taken me far, to Barnard’s loop, the Lagoon Nebula, and beyond. But the poor vessel, by now, jittered with trembling actuators and thrusters close malfunctioning from the 100+ jumps I took in quick succession, down onto a landing pad for the first time in years.
People had told me before that exploration would take a toll, physically and mentally. I had no idea how right they were. My first step into the world I had barely remembered seemed as much as tantalising and daunting as my first step into my journey. Endless unknowns ahead. With millions of credits worth of Exploration data in tow, I needed to figure out what I was going to do. So I did what any sensible person would do. I bought a 40,000,000 credit ship and left myself almost completely broke.
And that ship was the Krait MkII, finest of Falcon DeLacy. It almost seems like fate that I arrived at one of few stations that have it in shipyard as my first stop back in the bubble. But it was also fate that I’d run into immediate problems. Turns out, quartermaster of the station was running a dictatorship over the system, and was planning an expansion, and confiscated all the ships in shipyard for his cause. I should have been more careful. Nearly didn’t make it to the ship, made a mad run for it, but I made it. Got shot a few times. Sent the station into lockdown. Blasted my way out of the hangar and tore the access hatch to shreds. “Come on, be good to me,” I said as I manoeuvred the majestic ship out of the smouldering hull full of shrapnel. I was immediately fired upon, but nearly gave myself a stroke from g forces after boosting through the mail slot. Just barely made it out as the shields failed and the hull rattled with gunshots. This ship really moves.
But I’m on the run now. I have the full force of a dictatorship in the outer rim after me. Luckily, I received a comm from a guy in I Carinae, who claims he can help. He’s offering a job, that, should I accept, would get me out of this mess.
I’ve just gotten most of my belongings from the Blue Horizons and Kaitakusha moved into my personal quarters and elsewhere onboard. Trying to make it feel more like home. After living in the Kaitakusha for something like three years now, it’s going to be tough to adjust to a new ship. But hey, I’m already adjusting to my new/old life already anyways.
