Tiberius Captain’s Log - 6th of December, 3305For as long as I can remember, the law has been the highest thing I’ve aspired to uphold. I’ve crossed the galaxy hunting down the worst elements of society, ridding humanity of scum that cause nothing but destruction and suffering in their wake.
But maybe the law isn’t infallible. For all the things I’ve seen on my travels in the black, I’ve seen so much horror caused in the name of the law. I’ve seen brutal dictatorships propped up on the rule of law, saw the federation crush its lower echelons in poverty with laws that allow corporations to exploit them. I’ve seen enough. I’m done with being a blind enforcer of the law for some cheap, big bounty payment.
The Tiberius has an array of new improvements. A week or two ago, I set off way past the edge of inhabited space to ancient Guardian ruins, collected heaps of their tech, defended against sentinels, whose missiles were shot down by a blistering, popping cascade of green blazes from the Tiberius’s point defence, and returned to install formidable tech onto the ship. Even the engine sounds different now. She’s got alien tech running many systems now. In addition, I’ve replaced the beam lasers with a full set of multi-cannons, which turn anything in my path into shredded metal. Before, the Tiberius could get me out of a scrape if needed, and could take out most types of ships and go up against formidable opponents, but now she can make short work of even anacondas. Corrosive bullets on the multicannons has only helped. I’ve also fitted some extra hull plating in the bow and stern of the ship, which has added some extra protection to the canopy in the form of two triangular metal plates which now have given the ship the impression of an arrowhead. Finally, got a new paint job from a former imperial navy officer, now retired and offering professional hull painting. Now she’s got a sleek coat of dark graphite and angular streaks of hard orange and white.
With all of this, I can’t say I want to uphold the law with all this firepower anymore. I want to do something that actually matters. So that’s why I’m disavowing the federation and pledging my support to Aisling Duval. An imperial. And one I used to despise as much as the federation.
