Secrets

The life I lived before starting this company weighs on me sometimes. I went from system to system looking for the best payout I could. I didn't care where it came from. The Bored Bounty Hunter From Hell. That's what they called me back at home on Beregovoi. They were not wrong. I never found any excitement in my job, but it paid the rent, got me good food, and equipment I could tamper with to give myself an edge. It felt so empty. After I built the Albatross, there wasn't a single "Pirate Lord" I couldn't take down. So I turned my attention elsewhere. The real challenge wasn't other Commanders, but space itself. I would use a portion of my earnings to purchase a Diamondback Explorer and perform some basic modifications... enough that I wouldn't have to worry about getting stranded anywhere, as long as I didn't screw up. After that I set out into the black. I lost track of the time, but it was at least months of mapping uncharted regions before I found it. It did not take me long to examine the area and determine the craft was abandoned. An old Viper. Older than I knew Mk. IVs could be. They should be relatively new, but this one looked like it may have been sitting on the planet for decades. I acquired the salvage rights and hauled it back home myself.
I registered that ship as the Wayward Son. Fitting, I thought, for a ship that had clearly somehow gone astray. I restored it to operational condition myself using off-the-shelf maintenance manuals. This is when I noticed some problems. This ship had systems on it that it shouldn't. Old systems. New systems. Things that to my knowledge hadn't been invented yet. I studied this ship. Every inch. After what I discovered last, I knew I could never let these secrets fall to the wrong people. Princess Astrophel and the Spiraling Stars. COVAS began reading it off as soon as the computer came online. Navigation history showed an impossible Frameshift trajectory as the last one performed.
I have delayed long enough. I will find the way there. This ship will show me how.
To this log I have now dedicated my greatest secret. Perhaps I will tell this story after I have finally found Raxxla.
