You're wondering about the cybernetics, aren't you. Boy, is that a tale...The feds "debt repayment" was being strapped down and beaten within an inch of my life...well, they tell me I died 4 times before I was "stable", and it was only through the cybernetic implants that I'm here to tell you how it happened.
I'll get to that in a minute. But first, let me talk you through all the gizmos and thingummies.
I have a replacement windpipe and vocal chords. That's because (and I remember this bit, it bloody hurt) the fed agent cut my voice box to stop me screaming the place down after they took my fingers. Who can hear a wheezy whistle in the corridors outside? The windpipe, well, that got crushed by some hulk of a man towards the end of the "repayment"... now I sound like the ships computer, but a nifty bit of software modulated the sound waves and makes it sound human-ish...
My eyes...yeah...still, the upgrades are kinda cool, my left eye can track multiple targets while my other one can capture and broadcast images and video.
There's a neural enhancement chip, which keeps all the new kinds of input from overloading what is still, essentially, a human brain.
There's the new hands, which after a couple of weeks have pretty much caught up with what the old ones could, although I still haven't got the hang of not gripping things too tightly, and new knees to replace the ones blown out.
Thing is...I wasn't conscious when it all was done, I had passed out waaaay before the bastard crushed my throat, and came round in a stasis pod, with all these new bits and a looping message in my neural network telling me to go to Meng Mu.
And it wouldn't stop playing in my head until it did. So I went, just to silence the noise...
