A short history of the Guerasian Gueuze Beer
17 May 2022Claude Lecardunoie
Two or three days for this damned permit to Beta Hydri! This is a long time for idle trade pilots transporting Guerezian Gueuze beer and other expensive food we were soon to deliver to Mr Rackham. We all opened some of our own containers to share some of it and have our own little private party. Here's to you Monsieur Rackham.I stayed there, with my fellow pilots, in the dock area a whole day. I then moved to the residential and leisure sectors of the station. I went to one of their biopark. The Environmental and Artificial Weather Management service had programmed a nice weather that day. I sat on a bench along the alley, opened another Gueuze Beer bottle and slowly enjoyed every single sip!
They are right, it is tasty and refreshing. Sweet of course, the biolumiscent plankton of Geras brings this unique bitter taste. Okay, what is the story behind the Guerasian Gueuze Beer? Here's what the I found on the "Galactic Gourmet", an old collection of articles you can find on the net:
"The Gerasian Gueuze beer was first brewed in Yurchikhin Port, Geras around 2740, by the Dochs, a family of Belgo-Dutch colonists ascendance. After the Birthrights War, they resettled in Geras in 2738. They soon tried to restart the famous Brewery they had on Tau Ceti but quickly realized they couldn't use the hop variety that they had brought with them on any Geras planet as too much sugar was generated. After many unsuccessful experiments, they discovered that the plankton that can be found on Geras 3A could drastically reduce the sugar rate, while bringing a delicate bitterness, naturally increasing the CO2 amount and giving the Gerasian Gueuze Beer its iconic fluorescent green colour.
In 2998, Aantonius Dochs, then owner and executive director of the Dochs Brewery of Geras sold it to Berg's Trans Stellar Food for the position of "corporation board's co-president". An ironic turn of event for a company born from a colonist family which fled big corporations control 250 years before. Nonetheless, Berg's Trans Stellar Food preserved the traditional and artisanal Gerasian Gueuze beer brewing process, making it a rare and luxury drink througout the galaxy."
A beep from my pocket terminal interupted my reading: it was a notification from the Federation Trade Bureau: my permit to fly to Beta Hydri has finally been approved. I could finally take off and deliver my cargo of Uzsaian Tree Grubs to Zachary Rackham.
Finally the Beta Hydri permit
And, now time to deliver Pantaa Prayer Sticks to this Zachary Rackham
