You always were a kidder D'ian

FOLLOWS FROM Breathes Like An ImperialHow much time had passed she couldn't tell, but everything had become a complete blur and even the voice carrying over the speaker seemed to become a kind of soft buzzing sound, whatever the Doc had given her was something with enough kick to completely shut down her ability to lie normally and now all she could feel was her heartbeat thundering in her head. She honestly could not tell you what the question that had been asked of her was at that time, but her lips gave an answer with out thinking she vocalized the first thing that entered thru her mind at that moment
"No, I've completely forgotten who I am and I just hitched my wagon Caleb because he was the best game in town in a hopes of weaseling my way into a position of power where I could just slowly twist the knife of whoever is running things behind the scenes these days, you know the usual."
Inside the secluded interrogation chamber the absolute silence came so abruptly that it took her several extremely long seconds of drugged out introspection to realize what had caused the sudden and intense stillness...
She tried to read the room , understand context while she pulled back the last few moments
Hunter was placing a hand on his side arm, Doc had looked up from his diagnostic screen and was staring blank and wide eyed, an expression of shock and terror at what he had heard her say.
Her entire world stopped and shattered. How was she stupid enough to just blurt out like that, her panic began to set in as her mind raced, how can this be salvaged, she ran thru every possible lie she could think of that might dig her out of this but nothing seemed like it was right and just as she started to feel a bead of sweat drip a long trail down her temple there was a sudden break of the universe.
Voice on the speaker had begun to belly laugh, deep and long , even the modulation hiding the voice could not hide the fact that this was a mans laugh.
Then he spoke the words that would finish breaking what little sanity remained for Anri LaRosa today.
You always were a kidder D'ian
The world falls away.
Voice on the speaker keeps laughing a moment longer, Hunter cracks a smile and his hand slowly moves away from his sidearm. She starts to laugh with him. Hunter and Doc have a small chuckle as well. Everyone is relaxed again. For three of them the moment of tension is gone, but for Anri her mind still tries to wrap itself around a slowly descending curtain of reality.
Voiceman speaks again, the modulation monotone doing its job of hiding his voice once more.
Gentlemen you should consider yourselves honored, Ms.LaRosa is one of our organizations most staunch supporters, Dr. Wycherly and her have a long history.
Another lifetime, Another me
Voiceman keeps singing her praises
please make it stop
You are talking to the mother of Blackflight, D'ian LaRosa, The Wych's Familiar. If there was anyone that Caleb trusted to get something done it was usually this woman who got it done for him.
A broken mind can no longer reason away the creeping , gnawing realizations.
The veil is lifting, and two lifetimes of memories are starting to flood their way into her mind.
She just nods as Voiceman keeps talking.
Captain I fully expect you and your squad to give D'ian any assistance she needs, from here on out just consider her a special client of yours.
And get her out of those restraints and fetch her cigar case.
I refuse to believe this is happening
It was happening despite her inner plea to the divine. She felt her hands released then her feet, her body simply slumped lower into the chair now that nothing was helping hold her slackened muscles tight. She felt something pressed against the palm of her hand, the silver and gold cigar case, she tried to fumble with it her hands wavering until Doc politely offered to assist in opening her case, he even placed the cigar into her mouth. Hunter was quick to point out this was supposed to be a no smoking facility, Voice said it was now. Hunter lit the cigar himself. As he pulls the lighter away he asks a simple question that causes everything to pause one more time for her.
"So, you knew the Salvation before he was Salvation huh, how'd ya meet him?", it was asked in the professional manner of a man who was trying to get to know his new boss, but it forced to come the first concrete understanding of the flood of incoherent memories. A single word.
Pharmasapian
She put her thoughts slowly into words, she was answering the question as much as she was answering herself.
"We were rivals at first, I was the VP of Research for Pharmasapian. The first time we met was at a conference, neither of us wanted to be there."
Hunter seemed to think the answer was for him, she took a deep drag from her cigar, He asked another question.
"So uhhh how did that go?"
The memories began to clear for her as if she was coming out of a dream....
"would you believe we got into a fist fight the first time we met?"
All three men agreed simultaneously that they in fact did believe it.
She took another deeper drag of her cigar.
"Yea, I guess that sounds about right huh."
