Betelgeuse is a big angry God in the process of devouring two of its closest children. The first planet orbits deep within the corona. I coaxed the ship within 200 ls, close enough to catch traces of iron vapor in the fuel scoop. before pulling her out with minor damage. Betelgeuse 2 also dips into the corona, and I managed a full scan at 60 ls with the cooling system running hot at 60%. Betelgeuse 3 is the baked bones of a planet, atmosphere and water blasted into space by the solar winds. The massive red giant takes hours to set on the horizon. I take a few select minerals with my data collection and leave my offerings. Superstitious of the distance, and uncomfortable with the glare refracted by my canopy, I did not linger.
