A Day Full of Adventure -- From Thargoid Stars to Pirate Hunting
05 Sep 2022Final Asgard
Today, was quite the day.We have been hearing rumors of a "bright light" that looks like a star moving at high speeds in restricted space, so I decided to go check it out for myself. Wow, I don't know what this thing is, but it definitely exceeded my expectations. I was expecting a small dot, that looked like a star in a distant system, but oh man, it was massive. I don't know what this thing is, but its impact on the galaxy will be huge.
So far the star is out on the other side of Barnard's Loop, but this thing is moving, and quickly. I don't know where it is headed, but it will likely be there in a matter of weeks. Some say that it is going to the Bubble, but I kind of don't think so. Whatever this is, it appears to be a response to the Proteos Wave weapon on HIP 22460, so what if that acted as some of beacon to call this thing? That's where I think it is going.
On my way back to the Bubble (over 2,100 Ly away) we made a first for our adventures out in space. We put our name on a system forever, by being the first person in history to step foot onto a particular planet. Orion Dark Region NI-T c3-0 2 will forever have the name "Final Asgard" attached to it. Pretty awesome!
If that adventure wasn't enough, we also went mining today, and ran into some kind of glitch with our Abrasion Blasters. No matter what, they would not release the chunks of minerals from the exploded asteroids. Nevertheless, we still made a decent profit, but the frustration of the malfunction made us decide to do something different, so I went Pirate Hunting.
I don't know what was different about today, but I had a lot of success. I even went to the High risk Resource Extraction Site, and did not die! I found out that this is a good place to make a little money. Not as much as with mining, but that's okay. Variety is the spice of life, and we definitely had some variety today.
I did have one major mishap, which could have cost me everything. In the middle of combat, I tried to deploy chaff, and instead.... I turned on Silent Running.
Yup, in the middle of being shot at, and firing my high temperature causing lasers, I dropped my shield and stopped venting any of my heat into space. It only took about 1.5 seconds before I was at over 200% heat and taking module damage, plus without shields I was quickly being turned into swiss cheese.
Luckily I was able to recover from that and run far enough away until shields recharged. Yeah, that... was exciting? Terrifying more like.
That's enough of an adventure for one night, don't you think?
