[XPD 03.01] To Colonia!
29 Apr 2023Final Asgard
Welcome to Expedition 3!I got tired of waiting around in the system. I was either being blown up by pirates, or nervously awaiting for the Thargoids to get even closer to the system, with their desire to wipe us all out.
I was planning on working on finding some engineers to improve my power plant, but I'm tired of just sitting around.
So instead, I decided to start out on an adventure again. That is, however, what I love most about this universe. Exploring the vast unknowns.
I've heard a lot of great things about Colonia, not the least of which is that it is far away from any Thargoid fighting. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to got hunt down some alien bugs, but to do that you need a lot of specilized engineering, and I just have not made those connections yet. Maybe some day, but for now, I head out to the black, to the deep dark.
Colonia is a ridiculous distance away. So far away that my Nav computer can't even begin to plot a course. So I picked some random nebula about halfway between the bubble and Colonia, and set my course for there. But even that halfway point is going to be about 200 jumps away. This is crazy.
The only thing left to decide, is what ship to bring. The FA-09 Endurance, my exploration Anaconda, is an obvious choice for such a long journey, but I just got back from a trip in this space RV, and I kind of feel like taking something a bit more nimble.
So I'm off, in FA-05a Grace Upon Grace, my Asp Explorer. While I am a bit eager to get there, I did stop off to get first footfall on a planet. COL 359 SECTOR RC-T C4-14 D 3.
It is hard to believe that after so many years of spaceship captains flying this route to Colonia from the Bubble, I managed to find a system that has never before been scanned. Phylur BI-V C2-3 AB 2. This is a cool system, with 34 bodies, including a HMC world. If I ever make it back to civilization, this should be worth a good amount of credits.
I have never seen a binary star system from a planet before. I found a planet that gave a great view, and I tried to land on it, but I got a bit too cocky and ended up crashing into the surface of a giant planet... How the heck did I do that?
If I keep making mistakes like this, I don't think I'll ever make it to Colonia. But some poor isolated planet out in the middle of the galaxy where nobody will ever see it will have the debris of my ship scattered across it. Let's try to not do that. Luckily I have a few repair limpets, but not an infinite supply, so I really need to be careful. This little accident cost me 2 of them.
So we end the night, 19,750 Light Years away from Colonia, and 2,500 Light Years from home.
We do this insanity for the excellent astrophotography opportunities. Most of the really good opportunities come while in or nearby a nebula, which we are not. But regardless, here is my favorite picture from today's journey:
