Timing is Everything (Part 2 - Binary Stars)

28 Sep 2016IsraelZulu
Binary moons aren't the only thing that will give an aspiring photographer trouble. Even the stars, comparably huge and sluggish as they may be, can cause issue if you don't time things just right.

One night, while out and about, I came across this lovely pair.

There was a planet orbiting quite nearby, so I thought I'd settle down and get a nice view of them over the landscape.

When I first entered Orbital Cruise, they were set up quite nicely next to one another - the dwarf to the right of his big brother, in my view. What I failed to notice on my way down though, was that these three bodies - the binary stars and their planet - were all moving rather quickly relative to one another. By the time my gear had settled on the ground, this was all there was to see.

I had some other things to attend to while landed, so I decided to wait this one out. It took about an hour for the orbits to line up this shot for me.

It just goes to show that patience pays off, but timing really is everything.
