An Unlikely Accord
(By Victor Dangerstar)
Six months ago, the galaxy witnessed the arrival of the Taranis maelstrom and the terrifying power of the Thargoid invasion fleet. Imperial forces led by Denton Patreus quickly rallied to meet the xeno’s challenge in the Modigi system, only to find the swarm’s vanguard innumerable. Though the system was successfully evacuated, the sheer volume of Thargoids had blindsided the gathered Imperial forces and delivered losses so significant that retreat was unavoidable. In the aftermath, Imperial squadrons and Commanders rallied under the banner of Imperial Xeno Defense, a pan-Imperial task force dedicated to the protection of the Empire and her citizens. Greatly bolstered by reinforcements from the newly formed IXD, the Imperial armada found itself capable of stymying the Thargoid advance albeit spread perilously thin.
With Patreus’ fleets occupied fighting against the ancient enemy, conspirators in his spheres of influence sought to profit from the Empire’s suffering. Corporate opportunists, theists, and brigands quickly began pursuing control of key Imperial worlds. These short-sighted onslaughts quickly disrupted supply lines to the front and saw Imperial citizens forced to pay tribute to religious zealots. It was these dire circumstances that drove Admiral Denton Patreus’ representatives to seek assistance from a most unlikely source: Nova Navy, sworn defenders of the isolationist cause the Admiral had once attempted to eradicate. We reached out to Victor Dangerstar - a Praetor of Nova Navy who served under Mordanticus during the First Battle of Paresa - to better understand the squadron’s decision to render aid to their former foe:
“For the murder of our founder, Imperial senators, and our loved ones Admiral Patreus owes us a debt he cannot repay. Unfortunately we live in extraordinary times that preclude the luxury of enmity. Nova Navy remains committed to a strong, independent Empire in the face of the Thargoid threat and that means keeping Imperial supply lines stable and shipyards operational. Patreus’ representatives have made it clear that Nova Paresa is free to govern all the systems we recover as we see fit... So long as we continue to abide by the Treaty of Paresa. No matter what banner a citizen was born under, all who bear the eagle are entitled to Imperial protection and order. This is the cornerstone of isolationist policy; of Imperial exceptionalism.”
While Hadrian Duval remains an outspoken critic of current Imperial leadership and Aisling Duval’s dalliance with the reformed Aegis, the current head of Nova Paresa, Leo Magnus, famously cooperated with the Alliance and Federation via the short-lived and wildly successful ACT (Affiliated-Counter Terrorism unit). Since then he’s developed a reputation as a shrewd and pragmatic leader whose policies in combination with Nova Navy’s military might has seen the traditionalist faction increase its support by billions of citizens. Time will tell if Hadrian’s domestic success will lend credence to his criticism of the status quo.
Come to Paresa and join the Nova Navy if you want to honor the legacy of Mordanticus and ensure Hector Duval’s future.
