Okay... this is it... today is the day... I'm finally going to take my exam for my pilot license.... Oh, I'm so nervous.Grandpa promised me he would give me his old Sidewinder if I passed the test. He says every good pilot starts out with a Sidewinder. He always told me all the old stories about when he was a young pilot. Well... he was a trader, never made it far off the Bubble. He told me about all the pirates who tried to steal his cargo, but he always managed to run away… somehow... Or the other story, when he almost crashed into the station.... Running from the pirates. I loved listening to those stories.
My Dad was never a pilot. He is a mechanic on Palmer Works in Darian system and in charge of the ventilation systems. He says he doesn't trust these spaceships. He prefers to have solid ground under his feet.
Mommy got her pilot's license, but then she fell in love with a mechanic....
Daddy was not happy when I told him I wanted to be a pilot. We argued about it sometimes. It would be much too dangerous out there for a young lady, he said. And I always remarked that almost everyone in my year already had their license. And nothing ever happened to anyone. Lori James even flies a Python already....
One day he came to me and said that I could get my pilot's license, but only if I promised to be careful and to call home at least once a week. I didn't say anything, I just gave him a big hug. I think mommy is not entirely innocent in his change of mind....
And now here I am...
I hope I don't mess up the yawing and rolling.
