1 month had passed since Venus had made the move to Jameson Memorial with Silvia in hopes to build her new ship the Ranger. The two sat and watched the News and saw that Taranis had made its way to the bubble. Humanity was officially being attacked by the Thargoids. Reports stated that several systems and settlements had been overran and infiltrated. Things had gone much much worse than anyone had ever thought they would. For the time being Shinrarta Dezhra had been left untouched. Venus was worried by how quickly the Thargoids were advancing.
'God damn it. I'm running out of time. These damn engineers aren't making this any easier for me either. The materials they are requesting are not easy to come by'
'Is there any possibility you could face them without the engineers modifications?'
'Possibly. I know for a fact that I need the hull reinforced. Without that I may as well just walk into the Maelstrom cloud unprotected.'
Venus leaned forward and hung her head down. A look of worry on her face.
'Silvia, you are the last thing I have left in this galaxy. I can't lose you. Promise me that if they show up here you will take Longshot and get the hell out of the bubble. Promise me you'll make your way out to Colonia.'
'Venus, I don't.... I don't care how rough shit gets........ I'm not leaving.'
Venus looked up as Silvia finished her sentence and she just laughed. It wasn't out of spite or mockery, no she laughed because this small woman had a fire in her heart. She reminded Venus of a friend she had lost in combat with the federation. Though it was that same fiery heart that led to her demise. Venus responded jokingly.
'You are entirely way too stubborn, you know that right?'
The days following Venus spent making runs to various Guardian sites in hopes that she may come enough materials for the final piece of guardian tech she needed. While out gathering the materials Venus noticed 3 rogue signal sources, Thor, Raijin and Hadad. She thought that these signal sources were clusters of Thargoids scouting the ruins. To her surprise it was much worse than that. As Venus returned home to Silvia at Jameson Memorial an alert came over the net.
*Pilots’ Federation ALERT*
A further 13 systems have fallen under Thargoid control as the last of the Maelstroms materialise.
The three rogue signal sources – designated Thor, Raijin and Hadad – entered human-occupied space yesterday. As with the previous five anomalies, they manifested as colossal clouds of corrosive gas over 100 kilometres in diameter.
Venus dropped her flight bag as the news story continued on. Silvia had a very worried look on her face as the alert finished.
'Venus are we going to make out of this? Will my family make it out? I am afraid.'
The fiery spirit that Silvia had shown a few days prior seemed to be wavering as the war raged on and systems began to fall. She had never experienced a war. A few political conflicts here and there but nothing that brought on the death of billions of lives. She was terrified and rightly so. Venus remained stoic, she had seen war before, though nothing quite like this.
'As long as your family remains out the conflict zones and surrounding areas they will be fine.'
This statement however was not guaranteed. No one knew where the Thargoids were go to go next. No one was safe. The only safe haven at this point in time was Colonia. Even that wasn't guaranteed to remain that way.
Later on that evening Venus lay in bed as Silvia slept pondering the situation at hand. She caught herself wondering if this is how the Guardians felt when the Thargoids had began destroying them. She pulled out her data pad and began to write.
