Tools of the Trade

28 Dec 2022Centuris Blake
There's one thing that nearly every walk of life has in common: there are specific tools for every trade. Mining requires specific equipment that is unnecessary and even useless in other fields like exploration or combat. Fighting these gorram Goids is no different.

Until recently, I seldom needed to visit the Engineers to modify my ships, until recently. To fight the bugs, you practically need the upgrades those Engineers provide. You don't much stand a chance unless you're one hell of a crack combat ace. I am seeing the benefits of that engineering while in the thick of combat though; it is an entirely new variety of satisfaction that I wasn't expecting ever to feel.

Do you think the Engineers still feel any sense of pride in seeing another Commander do things they previously couldn't without their help? Or have they grown numb to that and simply plug along because that's what keeps them in business?

I can only kick around the Goids here in the Coalsack Nebula for so long. Their Scouts are easy, but sooner or later, I'm going to have to square up against one of those Interceptors. I do not look forward to that day with any form of eagerness, but instead with fear and apprehension. I have seen what they can do to entire combat wings, and I am one lone pilot in my itty bitty ship. What chance do I have against them?
Do you like it?
