Guardian Technology Research: XG9 Lance

Log entry, Commander Jambrick recording

I have successfully completed my mission to construct guardian ship launched fighters. It was a challenging but rewarding experience. Here are the details of how I did it.

First, I outfitted my Asp Explorer with beam lasers to charge the guardian beacon, a fuel scoop to overcharge the FSD and SRV's to deliver the key to the guardian site. Then I plotted a course that would take advantage of two pulsars in sequence to greatly reduce the travel time to the guardian beacon at Synuefe KU-F b44-4. Arrival time logged as 03 Mar 3309, 16:30.

Upon approaching the guardian beacon, it appeared shrouded in some sort of gas that sensors indicated would be harmless. Three pylons revealed themselves as the structure opened up and reached out. I fired beam lasers at the ends of the pylons where I could see energy jetting from the pylon, causing an energy bridge to be formed. I repeated this process for all the pylons. This activated the beacon and presented an ancient key, held in place with a bright display.

I performed a data link scan of a transmission emitting from the beacon. Results of the scan included location data for a nearby guardian site compatible with this key. I stored the key in my cargo bay and headed to the site.

Location: Synuefe EU-Q c21-15 - Synuefe EU-Q c21-15 A 1, 03 Mar 3309, 18:21

The site was on a rocky planet with low gravity. I had to be careful not to damage my ship or lose the key. I landed near the site and deployed one of my two SRVs. I used the SRV's cargo scoop to pick up the key from the Asp Explorer's cargo bay and drove to the interface at the center of the site. I was greeted by a guardian sentinel just barely functioning enough to attack in brief spurts. The sentinel was easily destroyed by SRV cannons.

The interface was a large circular structure with four pillars around it. Two pylons revealed themselves on either side of the interface. I used the SRV weapons to charge the pylons. The pylons throughout the site would only reveal themselves once in close proximity but could be seen on the ground easily enough once you had seen one prior.

Guardian sentinels began deploying in larger numbers as I powered up the structure. The charge would only last so long, so I couldn't waste too much time fighting. I flipped the drive assist off on the SRV and quickly navigated from cover to cover, struggling to keep the vehicle grounded. I would destroy a few sentinels and clean up the rest after charging each pylon.

Once the interface was online, I had to jettison the key into a slot on a platform in front of the interface and then scan the interface with my SRV's data link scanner. This activated the interface and gave me a guardian vessel blueprint fragment.

I repeated this process at different sites until I had enough blueprint fragments. After a while, I used a different SRV because they were damaged by guardian sentinels that attacked me when I approached the interface.

After collecting the fragments, I needed to find ancient guardian ruins and scan obelisks for relevant data on how to build the fighters. The ruins were scattered across different planets and systems. Some of them were hard to find or access.

I used my Asp Explorer's discovery scanner and surface scanner to locate them. Then, I landed near them and deployed another SRV. I scanned as many obelisks as possible with my data link scanner until I had enough data.

With all the data and blueprints collected, I returned to Cleve Hub - Eravate where my Krait MKII was waiting for me. I consulted a nearby guardian technology broker and constructed two vessels of the XG9 Lance type.

I was eager to test them out so I took off to a nearby conflict zone where some Thargoids were attacking human ships. I deployed one of my new fighters and ordered it to attack a Thargoid interceptor.

The fighter was fast, agile, and powerful. It fired its exotic weapon at the Thargoid's heart and managed to destroy one of them before being hit by a caustic missile that completely melted its hull.

I deployed another one. It did some serious damage but also got destroyed quickly by Thargoid fire.

They were fun to use but also very fragile against Thargoid weapons. Still, they helped me weaken some Thargoids enough for other human ships or myself to finish them off.

End log.
