I am writing this log entry to report on a tragic accident that occurred today. While flying my Krait MkII in the Omumba system, I collided with a friendly AXI unit. The collision caused total destruction of the friendly unit, and the pilot was killed. I was unaware at the time that the pilot had been killed, and I went to Interstellar Factors in the Putas system to try to pay off the bounty that had been issued for me.
When I arrived at Interstellar Factors, they informed me that they had found evidence on my ship that indicated that I had been reckless and negligent. My lawyer was unable to convince them otherwise, and I was charged with involuntary manslaughter. I tried to explain to them that it was an accident, and that I felt like I was needed in battle. I couldn't stand the thought of doing time while the stakes are so high. The Thargoids are what caused that accident more so than I, and my wing was not safe without my presence. This accident could have happened to any of us in the heat of battle.
Interstellar Factors Officer: CMDR Jambrick, you are here today on charges of involuntary manslaughter.
CMDR Jambrick: Yes, I am.
Interstellar Factors Officer: I understand that you claim that the collision with the AXI unit was an accident. Is that correct?
CMDR Jambrick: Yes, it was. I was flying in a combat zone, and I lost sight of the AXI unit in the smoke and debris.
Interstellar Factors Officer: However, we have evidence that indicates that you were flying recklessly and negligently. For example, we found that your ship's speed was excessive, and that you were not using your navigation systems properly.
CMDR Jambrick: I was flying at a high speed because I was trying to get out of the combat zone as quickly as possible. And I wasn't using my navigation systems because I was focused on avoiding enemy fire.
Interstellar Factors Officer: I understand. However, that does not excuse your reckless behavior. You are a trained pilot, and you should have been more careful.
CMDR Jambrick: I agree. I should have been more careful. But I am not a criminal. I am a soldier who was trying to do my job.
Interstellar Factors Officer: I understand that you are trying to defend yourself, but the evidence against you is overwhelming. I am afraid that I cannot accept anything less than you serving time.
Despite my pleas, I was found guilty and sentenced to prison. I turned myself in at Frechet Penal Colony. The penal colony was under attack by Thargoids shortly after my arrival, and in the chaos of guards trying to evacuate the prisoners, some were trying to use this as an opportunity to hijack the rescue ships to gain freedom. Many of them failed miserably and caused others to die needlessly. Some were even captured by Thargoid units. My group was able to evacuate without incident.
I still have no information on where I have been transferred to, just that it is approximately 120 ly from Omumba and currently safe from Thargoid threat.
I am deeply sorry for the accident that occurred, and I am prepared to face the consequences of my actions. I am also grateful to the AXI pilots who have been trying to help me through this difficult time. Fly safe out there commanders.
