A Blue Reset

27 May 2023Zillah22
It didn’t take long for me to decide how to spend my hiatus from maelstrom diving. The very next day I started packing Rock Goblin with limpets and soon set off to do some mining.

I have to say, mining is one of my favorite ways to relax. It’s so quiet. Besides the detonations of the seismic charges, of course. I have this one spot I really like that is not too far away from Jenson Gateway. In the past it has given me tons of ore without much effort in looking, and that day was no different.

I wanted to try another site just to explore a bit. The second was not as overflowing with ore as the first, but I did end up walking away with over 100 million in credits in a rather short time.

The weird thing, which was probably only a coincidence, was that both planets were this wonderful shade of blue. This induced my mind to wander while scanning for core nodes.

Staring up at these blue orbs made me start thinking about the Guardians. I don't know why, but blue reminds me of the Guardians. Even though the Guardians had skin that were different shades of red. Really, they did! And they also had these types of natural blades on their forearms. Don't believe me?! Go look it up!

Anyway, they were the other players in this thargoid drama. I could go study them for a bit. Perhaps that would bring some clarity to the events that were tearing through our civilization. I headed back to Jenson Gateway, stowed the Rock Goblin and pulled Attenborough's Legacy back out. Then I headed straight to the library. I consumed paper after paper, journal after journal, until I felt ready to make my way to an actual Guardian site. I chose Synuefe PX-J c25-8 as my target, as I found a wonderful article written by CMDR LookingCrystalline detailing the site very well.

When I first got there, the site seemed kind of small. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but on arrival I felt the size of my craft overshadowed the size of the sight.

Maybe I just didn't realize how big the Krait Phantom was, because once I got out it was clear I would be moving around in my SRV, not on foot.

My first visit to a Guardian site was really fun. I did get attacked by some sentinels, but this was often only a mild deterrent. I was able to easily dispatch them with my SRV weapons and scoop their left over bits into my cargo hold. But I have to admit, I might have "accidentally" destroyed some artifacts while exploring. A casket and some sort of tablet. I thought there was something inside, I swear! But when I tried to open them they crumbled to dust. Sorry Guardians! Hope that wasn't the key to ending the war.

The details I found in the library mentioned "powering up" the site. It is a bit of a process, but the main idea is that you power up some pylons, then put a special relic in a type of chamber, and then "something happens". Well, I followed all the steps and the "something happens" bit was pretty cool. This giant orb rose up and started glowing, reminding me of the planets that sent me here in the first place. I scanned it with my SRV's data scanner and went to take a picture, however I was fired upon while setting up the photo! I'm happy to say that I survived. I'm sad to say that by the time I dispatched the sentinels the site had returned to its dormant state and the orb was nowhere to be seen. So unfortunately, I do not have a picture of what it looked like. But I highly recommend taking the journey out here for yourself!

I left the system and headed back to the bubble, making sure to plot a course around any thargoid conflict areas. It was around this time I got the message from Professor Tesreau. You probably heard it yourself, so I won't detail it out here. It reminded me of my real target, the maelstrom. I jumped over to Lundwall City in LTT 1349 to speak with a guardian tech broker. I really wish I remember his name! He was super helpful. I showed him the data and components I picked up from the site and he told me he could build a Guardian FSD Booster out of what I had collected! This was gonna help a lot when evacuating stations with Arcadia, the Python I failed to mention by name in my first journal.

After purchasing a couple units of varying sized FSD boosters, I hopped over to a fleet carrier to sell off the rest of the Guardian relics I scooped up. That fleet carrier only had one item for sale. A thargoid heart. I considered buying it. I've seen Commanders with thargoid bobble heads on their dashboards and I've wanted one myself. But something didn't seem right about that. I felt like I had to get my own, like a rite of passage.

Guess that's another thing to add to the to do list.
