We've all been there

Familiar, isn't it? Everyone heard this line or its interpretations. Since at least the twenty third century did the myth of Raxxla fly by. Myth, not knowledge. Myth, not haulage. As people still can't decide: where is it, what is it, what thing-or-magic? A planet? Ship? Rift? ..How badly explorers' perception shifted, though. Never in the history of mankind, did the myths confirm in ways they persisted. And nobody even thought of asking right questions over the years this legend existed? It's not punishable to do so, after all?
Or should the Dark Wheel fantasies be treated as punishment? ..It's obvious - all this is not about a specific place, it's not a case of rags to riches. Furthermore - the myth appeared in the same years, as did the first means to travel faster than light. Why did nobody think about this before? Why there aren't stories about problems of technological solutions of past generations? So many questions, yet the answer to them all is the same. Before there was no door, and later - no sight of the knob.
Should someone twist what they found in hopes of turning - they would turn in a place, where there is no place for them. What is the reason, problem and solution? The drive. A frame-shift one, or a drive for progress, curiosity, riches? ..Fits better than folklore miracles, doesn't it? A door and a key at the same time. Where? ..No, not there - but through there, to where we all need to go. And go we must to different places. Through the same door. Since there are many keys - they all fit. In their own ways, though.
After all, what about Type 2b - or not to be - an explorer of the void? What about more primitive, slower hyperdrives? People of their time didn't think of their technologies so plainly, by the way. Neither do we thanks to SCO invention. Yet the legend persisted for dozen centuries. People lost themselves in witchspace just as much as modern explorers lose themselves in search of.. it. A planet? A rift? Indescribable riches? Thargoid homeworld? ..We don't know of what we don't know. But we suddenly know of Raxxla and its specifics?
Because we've all been there. Does Occam's razor really not work in outer space?
