Neutron star.

09 Jul 2023Totallynotademon
I've been staring at this thing for 3 hours.

My first neutron star.

Before setting out on this little trip, I was chatting with a fellow Imperial naval contractor. I told him how I had already been out to the crystal shards once before but wanted to go beyond that. But even with my upgraded FSD it was going to take forever.

"Have you ever tried neutron boosting?" He asked.

"No, are you kidding?! Why would I take a risk like that all the way out there!"

"Oh you gotta do it! Saves so much time. I do it in my Asp and I'll cover over 300 light years in one jump. Just bring a maintenance unit and you'll be fine!"

Now I'm face to face with this raging beast. The jet cones are a lot bigger than I imagined they would be. All I have to do is fly into that cone, hold steady until I'm charged. The modified firmware I had installed on my FSD should tell me when its done. Do it right, I should be able to jump close to 275 light years. Do it wrong and, well, don't do it wrong.

Here goes nothing.

---

It worked! Holy shit it worked!

I did 262 light years in one jump, using the same amount of fuel as a 30 light year jump!

It was terrifying, though. As soon as my ship hit the cone it was tossed all over the place. I fought hard to keep her in the cone until I heard the signal from the AI, and was almost immediately tossed out. It was ok, though. The drive was charged. The jump was successful.

Sure, my FSD took a bit of a beating, but its still operating at 99%. I've flown much worse. Plus i have not one but two auto field maintenance units on this baby. You never know.

I should do it again. I'll be at HIP 36601 in no time.
Do you like it?
