Back in the bubble

Only a few jumps towards the rift and I've turned back. Didn't find much in those jumps. Some empty systems, a couple bio signals that turned up to be nothing. Did find a few water worlds though nothing terraformable. That wasn't the reason I turned back. It was a message that came through the Galnet. The Sirius Corp had some work for me. I've worked with them before. Normally not something I would jump on like this. But what caught my attention was who sent the message.
Marco Qwent.
You've heard the name. Ex-Sirius Corp techie turned private engineer. Still works closely with the Corp but officially no longer in the organization. Makes you wonder what's really going on. Why would the Corp throw billions of credits at the guy to fund his facility if they weren't getting anything in return? Doesn't matter. I don't really care.
No what really got me was the message itself.
"My name is Marco Qwent. I knew your father well. Probably better than you do. We should meet one day.
I have some work for you. Head to Davy dock in Procyon and talk to the Sirius reps there. They'll give you the details."
So he knew my father. Better than me? Not hard to believe. He was always traveling. Never talked about what he did. I just figured he was working on some new scanner tech or something.
What have I got to lose? It's not like the rift is going anywhere. This is just a different type of exploration. 104 jumps later I'm in Procyon cruising to Davy dock. I had my MkII delivered a few days ago. Something tells me I might need some 'kinetic negotiations' for these contracts. You never know with these independent factions. At least the feds and the imperials tell you when they're throwing you into some shit.
What was dad really up to all those years?
