DISTANT WORLDS 2 - DAY 7 - ROCKS, ROCKS, LOTS OF ROCKS

19 Jan 2019Zak Starfall
Galactic stardate 19JAN3305

A day spent mining today. Headed out to the local ring to mine the ores needed for the Sag A* starport construction.
Out of Omega base, turn left, and start mining! It's not often you get to mine in visual range of the mining base, and it was great not to have to run the gauntlet of pirates in SC, especially in this weak-assed rental boat!

The Omega Security force had done a pretty good crackdown on crime before the DW2 fleet arrived. Reports last week had made mention of the base being under pirate attack, so there was some concern within the fleet, but this week, the locals seem to be behaving themselves so far.

Mined close to 100 tons today, nothing like the big boys are doing, but every ton counts, and it will pay for Star Reaper's service check.

On that subject, Cathy has been working her magic. Bored while I was out playing in the 'roids toiling away extracting vital resources, she went down to Omega Servicing and did the old "look pretty, but helpless and flutter the eyelashes" trick. Well, it may be eaons old, but us guys still fall for it! She got Star Reaper's servicing moved to the front of the queue, and she'll be good to go tomorrow.
Awesome news! Looks like the girl is worth what I'm paying her after all!

We had a communique this afternoon from the DW2 fleet administration advising a departure date of 27JAN3305 for WP3, so the fleet will be based here for the rest of the week. Think it might be an opportunity to head out and check out this area of space.

There are rumours of strange anomolies out in the Trifid sector, which is only 800ly or so from here. It could be just drunk spacer talk and tall tales, but with time on our hands, we're going to head that way tomorrow and see what we can find.

After a chat with the Omega Service guys, we've swapped out the F63 Condor fighter for a GU-97. The Condor looked great and was fast, but I found her a bit drifty for close flying around 'roids and other ships, maybe it just didn't suit my flying style. And the cockpit view felt a bit restrictive. Shame, cos I really like the style of the thing. The Omega guys reckoned the Imperial fighter, the GU-97, was a much more popular choice amongst explorers, more manoeuvrable and much less drifty, and they had some in stock, so we've done a deal. We're going to give one a trial run tomorrow, and provided we don't damage it, we have the option to swap back to the Condor if we don't like it. A big thumbs up for Omega Servicing!

It's looking like it could be an interesting day tomorrow
Stay tuned....
