Magellan Colony - The Search

Never done one of these public logs before, always hated the idea. This might end up becoming important though. Hell, I'm probably going you end up as a community leader, can you believe it? Me? So here we go, I'll give it a try as I might just need the help and support of a great many other commanders in the near future.

It was months ago that Cmdr Hig Hurtenflurst and I set off on our, what seemed at the time like a little adventure. The plan was to take both of our carriers, Olympus for me and Cloudbase for him, off into the deep black of Tenebrae, the most eastern part of our galaxy where Magellan's Star can be found, one of the four cardinal points. I took the long route (obviously for me, seriously it's a 120,000ly journey for me, I must be crazy) first via Colonia so I could drop some modules and materials off for my half-brother Mark Wells. He's based out there now, but did come along to help us later, I'll get to that.

It's a long, long way from Colonia to Tenebrae so I then made a pit stop at Wells' carrier, Cygnus. It's parked at Black in Green near the centre of the galaxy which is a beautiful, amazing nebula. Cygnus is the only carrier allowed in the system, I think he got it in before some ban came into effect and they let him keep it there. It just sits all alone at the mouth of the black hole. Anyway he'd asked me to check in on the carrier, something about the captain sitting on her tablet computer all day. Things were good though, so after swinging by the local tourist station for a swim I headed out into the black.

I was the first to arrive at Tenebrae, been there before, amazing place. There's so much cool stuff like stellar phenomena and oh my god, the cash to be made scanning mould has gained me billions, like many, many billions. I need that to build my bases. Hurthenflurst caught up with me a few days later. He went exploring as he'd not been to that region before while I started looking for good base locations, and crucially, some tritium we could mine to get us home.

I must have spent months out there scanning hundreds of star systems, probably several thousand. It paid off though. I quickly found not just tritium but a great double overlap and we both parked the carriers there and spent a good time mining to refuel. There were three other systems I found though. Two with landable ice worlds that could be good candidates for tritium mines, we'll have to run some more tests. One had an Earth-like, an ammonia world and two stellar phenomena, incredible. The other just an ammonia world but still fantastic. Then there was the crown jewel, a system several thousand light years from those with a tiny world, just 252km across, two NSPs and I found four, count them, four Thargoid probes. Ought to make a good base for a research outpost I think.

Anyway, we'd spent months at it so eventually headed off on the next leg of the trip, that's still ongoing. Out to Amundsen's Star, another cardinal point where we are right now. After that LIvingstone Point, which I love for its serenity, before heading to the Heart and Soul Nebulas and the route home.

I knew this would take a while though so asked Wells if he'd mind scouting locations for staging posts to build a bridge out to Tenebrae for the bases. I figured he'd say no. What a great coincidence though, he'd just that week taken delivery of his new Zorgon Petersen Mandalay, both Hurtenflurst and I have one each too. We'd pre-ordered and managed to arrange delivery all the way out to our carriers. How anybody made a profit on that deal I'll never know.

Anyway, Wells has mapped the bridge and found me eight good spots, each 5,000ly apart and with several choice systems at each. Most with water worlds, useful for a colony, and some with ammonia or even Earth-like planets. He stopped by my three potential base systems afterwards but then came the disturbing news. The Thargoid probes had gone.

I'm not quite sure what this means right now. It's too far out for somebody to go and get them, besides there's plenty back near the bubble. You don't need to travel 40,000ly for them! So what else could it mean. I really hope it doesn't mean what I think it might. That could mean that system is just far too dangerous for a xeno research base. I swing by when I'm back out there and check, but it's making me nervous. Anyway for now Hurthenflurst has caught up with me so we're gonna head out and do some more exploring. Those billions won't earn themselves.

In the mean time I suppose all there is for me to say is that if you love the Tenebrae region as much as I do, and my god it's a fantastic and wondrous place full of amazing stellar phenomena, then drop me a message. Unless you're looking for new settlement raiding opportunities you'll be welcome to come on board Cmdr.
