Dawn and the Road up 'till Now
16 Oct 2015Desert Fox CXVII
...... These Dawn idiots even hope to accomplish? We're blasting them out of the sky in droves, and they still think they're going to accomplish something. Sure they killed Hengist, may his soul rest in peace, but that was before we knew they existed. The security in Achenar is going to be astronomical. Half the Legion is going to be deployed there, and the rest are going to be in the outlying systems. Not to mention the Templars, the Inquisition, most of the local naval force, and the fleets Torval, Patreus and whatever token force Aisling is sending. If anything tries to get anywhere near Her Majesty, it'll be shot into so many tiny pieces we'll have to use a photon microscope to figure out who they are. Christ this is going to be a nightmare. [there is a long sigh] I'm just glad I'm not in Imperius's shoes. All I have to do is inspire the troops. That unlucky bastard has to organize the Legion and co-ordinate our fleets with High Command, and you know how they operate; slow as pond water and about as clear as mud.
[Another sigh] look I'm sorry Jack, I know you don't really care about this stuff.
No sir, it's alright sir. Did you want me to...
How many times do I have to tell you not to call me 'sir.' Makes me feel old. I'm only thirty five for Christ sake.
Yes si- Yes Commander Fox.
You're getting there. Just distribute that information, and tell those hacks at GalNet that they can have their interview; doubt its even going to make it on the air anyway. And while you're at it, tell Imperius that the temporary permits for Achenar haven't come through yet. High Command has screwed us, yet again.
Yes sir, right away sir.
Goddamnit Jack, how many times...
The connection has been cut, Commander.
Oh, thank you Lisa.
[There is a clink and the gurgling sound of liquid being poured from a bottle]
How's she doing?
The Inquisition is still being repaired, Commander. The damage was quite extensive.
Look, I didn't see him. He had a black paint job and his vents were closed. And it's not like I didn't have anything on my mind; that missile was closing.
And not only did you fly directly into an anaconda, but we were also struck by the aforementioned missile.
But did you die?
You know I can't die, Commander.
Fine, was your processor destroyed?
No, it was not.
Well then? Lighten up a bit
Commander, I believe it's time for your next log entry.
Oh come on don't be like that, I was just having a bit of... Fine fine I'll do it.
Commander Cassius Fox, stardate 16 October, 3301, docked aboard Parkinson Orbital, LTT 874. So I had just joined the Legion; Lavigny's Legion, originally a sizable military force during the formation of our Empire, it was devastated and reduced to the elite personal guard of the Lavigny Family. For about a thousand years it served in that capacity, until the assassination of our Emperor. Her majesty, a senator at the time, ordered its reconstitution and authorized Independent pilots to join. Thousands flocked to her cause and its numbers swelled.
So I joined. after months of scraping a living from sleazy pubs and back alleys, I finally had something worth fighting for, something more than just credits. That's not to say I don't make money; as a matter of fact, I'm payed very well, just not as much as others. But it doesn't matter; I believe in what I'm doing, and that's what's important.
I started out like any fresh Legionary; I was a grunt doing grunt work. It didn't bother me, because I knew it wouldn't be forever. So I did what I was told; I killed pirates, fought in little territorial skirmishes, patrolled borders, even participated in the Pegassi war.
And then, the strangest thing happened; You all know Commander Corrigendum. He's always on the news, talking about the Empire's progress in Pegassi, or informing everyone about the good the Legion does. He's famous. Well, he offered me a job. Right out of the blue, couldn't believe it. Well of course I took it, I looked up to the guy. He's a legend.
Turns out he was grooming his successor; High Command had re-assigned him, and he needed someone to take his place. If he had told me that I wouldn't have taken the job, but... I guess he knew that, so here I am. Head of Public Relations for Lavigny's Legion, one of the most influential groups in Imperial space. Christ, if someone had told me I'd be doing this six months ago, I'd have laughed in their face.
I still really don't know what I'm doing. Just winging it, mostly. Everyone tells me I'll figure it out, but Corrigendum left some big shoes to fill, and from where I'm standing, I've got some pretty small feet.
Well... that's the Pilot's Fed caught up, I suppose... If they want more, they can ask for it specifically. Lisa, cut the recording and send it over to the shrinks. And cut out any daft bits.
Right away, Commander.
