Colonia Galleon Project Progress Report #13

As scheduled, the Urca departed Vihara Gate on Thursday at 19:37, with a course laid to Caravanserai. Due to the length of this leg of the journey, however, it wasn’t feasible to reach it within my usual 4 hour transmission window, so I made a field stopover after 52 jumps and 3 hours 18 minutes of total flight time, resuming the journey yesterday.

When I re-calculated the route, however, the nav computer decided to add an extra jump, so it means I wouldn’t be following the exact same route as plotted from Vihara. Maybe this turned out to be for the best, as I’ll describe later on this log entry. In any case, the Urca reached the Gandharvi system without incident, and docked at Caravanserai at 23:01 on August 8.

The final numbers for this leg of the journey to Sol are: 105 jumps and 3,909 lightyears’ worth of Witchspace. Total aggregated time from Vihara to Caravanserai was 6 hours and 40 minutes. Zero interdictions, all 608 tons of cargo secure and in perfect condition.

So why did that extra jump turned out to be a good thing for me? Because it allowed me to pass through the Blua Eaec FY-G d11-3735 system. This never-visited-before system hosted several planets orbiting a Class F star. Four of these planets are of special interest: three of them show promise of being amenable to terraforming efforts - two High-metal content planets and a Water World.

And the fourth world of interest turned out to be an Earth-like planet - forming a binary with the terraformable Water World to boot!

This is the first ELW I’ve ever discovered, and the second one I’ve ever made a full surface mapping of. Needless to say it, I was so very excited by this find, the crowning achievement any self-respecting explorer aims for! I couldn’t wait to reach Caravanserai, sell the data and take a look at the galaxy map to see if I could boast about this amazing find!

Sure enough, after selling the data and verifying on the map, the planet had both first-discovery and first-mapped tags to my name next to it. So did the other worlds of high value in the system.

While UC doesn’t allow the naming of discoveries - yet - that doesn’t prevent me from assigning informal names to the worlds I’ve discovered. And an ELW surely deserves a proper name! Henceforth, planet 4 of the Blua Eaec FY-G d11-3735 system will be named “Alnor” in my discovery log, hoping that someday I can make the name official.
