A Humble Return and a Million-Credit Surprise

Commander’s Log: Day 1

So, today started with on-foot training—felt a bit like the old Navy drills, though rough around the edges. It got a little hairy at one point, but nothing I couldn’t handle. They then “loaned” me a Sidewinder. Not exactly a dream come true. Poor jump range, no fuel scoop… feels like the universe’s way of saying, “Welcome back to the bottom, Commander.”

Ran a few data delivery jobs, maybe 3 or 4. About as exciting as watching paint dry, but credits are credits, and I’m not in a position to be picky just yet.

After the deliveries, I took a tip from an old contact who mentioned that system data can fetch a nice price—apparently, Universal Cartographics will pay good credits for scans. Figured it was worth a shot, so I swung by a few systems and ran some scans. Not exactly high-stakes mercenary work, but it beat hauling data packets.

When I finally landed at Onufrienko Terminal in the Temnet system, I checked my account… and there it was: over 1 million credits for my scans. More than I made in the Navy in weeks. Not bad for a few hours of pointing scanners at stars.

With that boost, I upgraded the ship’s FSD and slapped on a fuel scoop. Almost got stranded in the dark earlier, and I’d rather not make a habit of that.

Here’s hoping the next few days are just as profitable—and a little more exciting.
