In the Periphery - Venturing to a Community Goal

06 Dec 2016Vandal Stormovik
Today I decided to see what the fuss was about the community goals I see posted on Galnet.  This one was requesting gold or some other commodities in return for high returns on the commodities as well as a bonus.  Well, I definitely could use the credits, so I pulled my old Type-6 out of the storage hanger.  I had forgotten that I had also asked them to paint this ship, because at first I didn’t think it was mine.  The white paint definitely gives it a new look (no doubt the pirates will think so as well).

So off I go, into the black with a bright white cargo-hauler that just says “come get me”.  About halfway there, when I am gassing up at the nearest class M star some jerk in a Vulture tries to jump me.  I let him pull me out of supercruise and then pop the hardpoints, fired the chaff, and start scooting.  This guy couldn’t have been that experienced because he never got a shot off before my drive was charged and I was just a high wake in his eyes.  That was the only issues getting there.  About two jumps out I pulled into a close space station just to take a break before the last run into the target system.

The issue that is inevitable at these community goals is that the pirates and crazies all read Galnet too and think, “hey…lots of traffic….perfect place to be”.  And with my Concordat white paint job glistening in the sun’s light as I made the jump to this system, I thought for yet another time, “why am I doing this?”  As fortune had it, there was only one other ship of any significance en-route to the station.  It was a Python (something that could easily eat me as a snack), but it seems she was doing the same thing I was and left me alone.  After selling my gold for a hefty mark-up, I pulled out of that system as fast as my jump drive would allow.  Lots of credits in my pocket, but I don’t know how often I will be taking that on.  Just too far to fly, with too many hazards, for too little pay.  That’s what you get for living in a system at the edge of populated space though.  Perhaps I will take it on again after I get that ‘Conda I have had my eye on.  At least then I could stand a fighting chance against the FDLs and Pythons out there waiting for me.  Anyway, back to raising funds for the cause of the Pleiades Concordat and hopefully this drop in the bucket will make a difference.
