A fine dayFebuary 7th, year 3307 - Simpson Depot Facece system in ALD controlled space
Two ladies were sitting at a rest area next to a fountain aboard a Coriolis station, military personnel were going about their daily business. Both were wearing clothing typical of deck crews found on the landing pads. One of them was tall and muscular with long curly blonde hairs and the other was petite in stature with long black hairs. they were shoulder to shoulder with smoking beverages in hands, about to share a discussion. After some time, the lady with black hairs opened up, slightly shy about her approach:
-I never asked but... how long did you work with him? You've worked with him before, r-right?
The tall lady sighed, then answered somewhat discouraged:
-I don't keep track of these things all that much, I go one day at a time really... does feel like I worked with him since forever tho'...
The short lady with black hairs blinked and questioned further:
-I know he can come across has...eh, stern? However, what he did there, that was on a whole new level, even for me! W-what's up with that?
The tall lady smiled and moved her head repeatedly in a slow "no motion" before saying on a serious tone:
-He's though with people he loves or cares about, yet, tougher with those who he knows can take it. You can bet your life on that.
The tall lady then took a sip of her beverage staring at the middle of the fountain, without even looking at the lady with long black hairs. The short lady now appeared confused even more by the statement, if anything else. she inquired while frowning at the side profile of the tall lady:
-So, you guy's did work together alright, but what do you mean by him being though with people?
The tall lady closed her blue eyes for a second, letting go of a long sigh and turned her head around and stared right in the brown eyes of the young lady and stated with a monotone voice:
-As I started working with him I nearly lost it because he seemed like the type of moron that felt compelled to carry the weight of the whole world on his shoulders. I then assumed he'd get the both of us killed in record times out in the field.
However, upon confrontation on the matter he looked me dead in the eyes and told me that what would get us killed was me not being strong enough to carry my own weight and letting myself think about us getting killed in the first place.
And that's the story of the day I learned that there was more to strength than lifting weights and exercise.
What he did earlier today back there... I deserved it, I fucked up, so don't mention it any further, okay?
The short lady's face melted in an embarrassed expression and her voice feebly let go, in a meek attempt to shift the topic:
-Eeeh- O-okay... YOU--you come here often then?
The short lady was clearly shook by the interaction. The tall lady let go of a genuine laugh, gave her a friendly, yet vigorous tap on the back and told her, somewhat cheerfully:
-Here? I've been living here for a while now, its about time I move on to where I ought to be, you understand?
The young lady slightly shook from the shift of attitude replied with blinking eyes:
-Y-Yeah... I think I do, eh, understand.
The short lady then timidly took a sip of her drink then let go of a grimace, it was cold and she was so nervous she forgot to put any sweetners or cream in it, she then raised an eyebrow at the tall lady who was happily sipping at her cup, a smile on her face... the lady with long black hair then stared at the middle of the fountain too, as if she was searching for answers in the drippling waters.
In the distance, the sounds of a busy, yet properly functioning starport could be heard. Few words were spoken, ships were landing and departing without an itch.
