DW2: Log5 - death and rebirth

02 Feb 2019Tannhäuser
Leaving the Conflux area with the fleet, I had to visit the local NSP - to find these little blue light balls. Very cute.

Thence up to the roof of the Galaxy. I made it to Box Nebula for this wondrous view

The galaxy below me

Unfortunately I miscalculated jump requirements after the next jump. To get back on track I needed 145 Ly but max jumponium gives me 130. So I was stuck. Beacon on, self distruct and into the Escape Pod I went. Pickup as always was rapid, depositing me back in Rohini with a large insurance bill. Lesson learned. I'd also scanned all datapoints in the Conflux Settlements and it was a pain to lose that valuable data.

Now I had to play catchup so swiftly NH'ed my way across to my next way point, to look at the rare biologicals: sinuous tubers.

Despite visiting two sites previously recorded I've had absolutely no luck finding my own. There are about 20 sites discovered now spread over a wide area. For DW 2 the new EXtool is proving a great place to keep track of these discoveries. Worth installing.

Following this it was off to the Dragon's Head nebula - which I prefer to call the Magic Mountain:

In the centre of this is a black hole, which I got a bit too close to for comfort...!

However despite some surveying I found little of interest and not a single NSP. This nebula appears to be ignored by the gods of randomius.

Heading back towards the next DW2WP, I came across two moons, each only 400K across, and about 1200K apart. Not sure how rare or not this is. Maybe I'll return one day and see if its possible to fly across the gap in an SRV!

Occasionally around this area of the galaxy there's a bit of an immersion breaker: the Stellar Forge's box model appears too obvious here when star densities change suddenly. This is also visible in the EDD 3D map from certain angles.
Its a shame but the 'fuzzing' of boundaries seems just not done in some places and clumping is obvious. Ah well, not complaining too much, Elite so amazing in many ways!

So after a fairly long jaunt and many a mapping I made it to Sacaqawea, in time to go have a look at the local wildlife. Cashing in I found that the 'bonus' from mapping far outweighs the cash earned from discovery. I was not prepared for that so a pleasant surprise.
Shame that Cartographics cannot yet attribute the bonuses to specific activities. It would be good to know what earns well.
Do you like it?
