Well that didn't work out as planned. 56% hull left upon landing. Maybe I should check what I can give up and put a repair controller on board. Wasn't "that bad" of a trip. Made 15M (I know, it's pocket change for most of you). Also got some 1st discoveries and maps. Of course, 1st footfalls too.
Stop - I'm getting ahead of myself. So, here's what happened. I decided to "explorer up" and plotted a course from CB-5 Ultzer-Noromia in the Bleae Thua KY-L c7-12 system to Helgrind Gateway in the NGC 6530 Sector ZE-X b2-0 system. Helgrind is located between CB-11 and 12. Plotter said 66 jumps. I knew I wouldn't be able to do it without having to take a nap on a rock or two along the way.
First three jumps, all ship systems normal, everythng 100%. Scanning, mapping, landing. Shooting skimmers, picking up escape pods. Shooting little rocks, picking up mats. Scanning and picking peices off plants. Doing good. Takes time, but getting it done.
Fourth jump - the poo hit the fan. I got greedy. Due to picking up the pods I had to reroute due to extra weight. No problem. Enter system, honk and I hear "41 bodies in the system". Well, this is going to take some time. FTM Found Something found something. FSS had no names attached. It was big, had rings, had bio, had geo. Of course - let's go see what we found.
Once the landing gear touched down, the ship stopped moving, and the dust cleared. 57% hull - but still breating normally. Time for a drive. Pull out the scarab. Doing my thing. Found out something new (to me anyway) - lava spouts can hurt a scarab. 23% hull left. Fuel was down to 40%. This rock should be renamed to death. Because if you're not careful, you can die here.
And now you know why I'm staying close to the bridge. Figured with what I was doing and most importantly, how it was going, I'd need help - where's the closest CB section to get fixed and sell off what I have. CB-6 Carbis Bay in Blu Thua AI-A c14-10 system. Six jumps away. So, due to "explorer up" - I took ten jumps and hurt my ship when I could've done the smart thing and could've done seven jumps just by going from CB-5 to CB-6.
Logs say that CB-6 is just over 2Kly from Sol. I haven't gone very far. Time to change things up a bit. I'm not going to try to get famous anymore by having 1st map/footfalls on every rock between here and there. Doing the math, just over 1M credit per hour of travel. That really doesn't seem right. I can make that much just hauling stuff. Here's the plan for the next trip. CB-6 to Helgrind. Just honk along the way and if something good pops on the star map, then I'll FSS. If something has more that 4 signals, I'll map and land for goodies. Logs say that Helgrind is 4Kly from Sol. Time to see if I can travel the same distance in 1 trip that I've done in 2. And, see what the credit per hour is.
