A cautionary tale...

Well, I've gone and done it. Master ranking...and a brand new Courier to go hunting in. I ended up cleaning out my hangar a bit though...sold off my Type 6 and my Cobra Mk. III for outfitting costs, rebuilt my Asp to cargo status (although she still has big teeth), and bought the Courier. Very sweet little ship to fly, so I decided to go hit a nearby HiRes for some combat victims.

Right after I arrived, I found a Python annoying a couple of mining Adders, so I dove in. After about a minute of sustained laser fire, he was a smoking wreck! Ok...this is nice. Let's see...ooh, a Clipper, and some security Eagles are shredding its shields1 That works...time to execute it. Nice to see another 100k in the bank...and look, the Feds are showing up too. Can't have them in Imperial space, so time to kill a dropship. No problem.

At this point I was up to around 300k in bounties, but still not done...when I noticed another Dropship attacking a Type 9 with a swarm of Eagles around it. Ok...dive in, scanning, fire...400cr bounty for assault. Wait, what? Ah, crap...didn't scan long enough. Ok...kill the Dropship, he's already weak...umm, what's hitting my shields so hard? Wait...is that 2 security Anacondas chasing after me? When there's a wing of Dropships and a couple of Pythons all going for a helpless T9? Really? Well...the Dropship is dead, another 90k of vouchers...and another 400cr added to my bounty for "murder". Time to run away! I managed to get out safely, keeping my shields up (this thing is tough all right!), and slunk back home to Thome Gateway to close out the night and wait for the bounty to go away.

The moral of the story...don't shoot before you're done scanning!
