Current System: Synuefe SI-R c21-5

Day: 2

Getting back to the Vela Dark Sector is taking me longer than I realized.  There seems to be a lot of systems between the Synuefe and Wregoe Sectors that had only been half-scanned by people on their way to the Formidine Rift according to the information I'm seeing within the Galaxy Map.  I don't know what's worse:  the explorers cherry picking systems for Earth-likes and Terraformable Planets or the tourists on their way to and from places of interest as reported by other pilots and GalNet News sources.  Both cause half-reported star systems to Galactic Cartography leaving the dedicated surveyors to clean up what's not been finished.

While I was grounded, I was watching the news about the Colonia Coalition and how many of the wings are trying create an accord to play nicely in the Colonia area so that all those that had won a place in the far flung reaches will be enjoy the fruits of their labours.  This idea has been tried before in the past so many times before and while this sounds good on paper, human nature dictates that even the best laid plans... never last long.  Greed, power and opportunity will always remove the peace between rival wings no matter the intention of peace.  After all, isn't this how the rivalry was created between the Federal and the Empire?

The discussions within my own wing were somewhat exhaustive on the pros and cons of joining this coalition, so much so that I strongly believe that was the reason why I rushed out of Barjavel Station as quickly as I did.  Though while everyone within the wing was marvellously cool-headed during the discussion, based on my interpretation of them -- it would appear that the wing was pretty much ambivalent as to joining this coalition.  At least I checked before heading out to Synuefe Sector -- the majority vote was to stay clear of it.  I've yet to sign in to the wing's communication network to confirm (or deny) whether this decision remains as I saw it.

As I've said during the discussion and my opinion remains steadfast, this accord is nothing more than a paper tiger that when push comes to shove -- will fall apart just as quickly as it was created.  All it will take it one opportunistic individual (or group) to push their own agenda and unless this coalition has enforcable actions -- they will turn on each other faster than a frenzy of sharks.  Will it survive after that?  Only time and observations will tell.

The sadder thing is that now that I'm in my middle-age, I find it modestly surprising that I'm once again embroiled in the middle of human politics.  Something I enjoyed in my youth with the local government and factions of my homeworld, but loathed as I continued to mature and grow older.  So much so, it drove me into the Pilot's Academy where I graduated and headed as far into space as I possibly could.  While middle-age has tempered my youthful anger (which is a good thing), I find myself both invigorated as well as tired of the potential for socializing in a political setting.

But then..  aren't politics just one small part of the human condition?
Do you like it?
